    Crimped or Norma Clamps?

I'm refurbishing my fuel line. It's the original metal and rubber line with crimped connectons. Is there any reason I should use crimped connections rather than Norma clamps to secure the new rubber lines? My understanding is the crimps were used as a cost-savng measure, not necessarily a better connection.

They lasted a long time didn't they?

When I did my 356 engine we "rolled our own" as the shop had the tool for making these lines.

6 of 1 half dozen of the other. I like the original stuff if you can get it.

    Curt,

I have never heard of either being more prone to leaks. It's really a question of:

    1) Originality. Replicating the six-sided crimp with the correct ferrules costs money and time.

    2) Ability to disassemble easily in the future. If you anticipate fiddling with the banjo fittings in the future (if yours were ever prone to leaks) you will need the ability to remove the stub hose without having to repeat #1 above.

I put some stuff up about original Cohline fittings and hoses here and pelican, you should be able to find it under Cohline and my name.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm thinking. While I'd like to stick with the original look, the prospect of finding somebody locally to do it correctly and not screw it up or sending it out to somebody who has the genuine Cohline equipment is a worry I don't need right now.

Where do you get the Norma clamps?

I think I am short a few and want to use the original throughout my resto.

    Thanks,

    Bob,
You can also find them on early BMWs. I go to pick yards and scavenge as many as I can find.

McMaster Carr does not have the OEM Norma brand clamps. But they do have some that will work "in a pinch".

As for Eagle Day. $5.95 per clamp? Ouch.
