Hey guys I could be convinced to participate in one of these drives or meets.. getting a little sick of all that west coast yammering on an on..
Although they do have the weather and land of more p cars than germany!
Actually somewhat of a transplant ,a little pro southern calif. used to live and work in LA ,still have some projects on going car wise and many friends
and family there.
Dave is a great guy once you get by that all porsche knowing ego and guys
like Tony at TLG are invaluable for knowledge and parts or service.
I'm planning on bringing my '72 RS 3.6 clone back from the west soon and
would like nothing more than taking a run to Shanandoah,as a matter of fact
my daughter is in school in Staunton and I'm certain I'll be making quite a few
more runs down there !
You've got my vote ,I'm in DC ,let me know how I can contribute ,thanks Bert
I might be off base here, but maybe one of the reasons for the invisibility is the specific nature of the 'club'. I have a '73E..and it's not stock....2.7, upgraded this and that and so on...so my perception is that I don't belong, as I'm not even an S car, much less a pristine stock example.Originally Posted by sithot
R-Gruppe seems exclusive, (gotta know someone, invite only, etc) but isn't 'S' limited. I'd be all up for drives and get togethers, but I kind of eliminated myself from the concept because of the "S Registry" moniker....I just didn't think I belonged.
I linked over from the Pelican Board, where the R Grouppe thread is the best show going...and I have to say, I am soooo jealous....as a guy who lived in So Cal in the mid 90s, THAT is the type of driving and event that that state is ALL about. I wish I was there.
That said, there are all sorts of cool cars here on the east coast as well. I had a conflict for the Paradise Garage gathering, but I'd love to kick tires and take drives too, if the group is open to early cars that don't fit the strict standards.
Just some observations.

I guess we'll have to come up with something then... Now it does not have to be all the way up to LRP, why not one of the Florida areas

What you are speaking of is an Ostversammlung, an East Gathering, as in "the gathering", where mythical creatures of the past come together, regardless of their origins being T or E or S or L or SWB or LWB or 914 or modified, and where Ost from cuba to newfoundland?
A drive or gathering that is held in the summer, for weather reasons, that moves from one state to another over the years ... where its all about the experience ..
There are runs starting over on pelican, for the tri-staters that do a bear mountain run up to new paltz, as well as a Long Island gathering in the works ...
these are all years and not early specific of course ...

June July or August???
I need some feedback so I know how many are coming or intend to come.
Tom
I could do June perhaps, some of July, and August. It's 400 miles down and 400 back for me, so we'll give it a lash.

I'm in Tom, and I think I could get a couple of others from the North Carolina area. The summer is pretty open for me at this point other than June 17-18. We have our local PCA event, Porschefest, and that's also LeMans weekend. (who scheduled a Porsche multi-day event on the first weekend in forever that Porsche has a prototype back at LeMans taking away valuble tv viewing time!?) Are there any parameters to the Virginia event as far as Porsche attendees? A good freind just sold his early car and currently drives a very nice SC. I'm sure he'd like to be there if things work out.

I don't care if they drive a Dodge Dart. Anybody who likes cars is good with me. If they like bikes they are more welcome than the car guys.
Best,
Tom
Tom, maybe you might start a separate thread on this gathering ... christen it with a name etc, and we'll see from there what weekend will be most convenient for the majority?
Post it in the Drives/Gatherings etc .... Versammlung at Staunton type thing?
