    914 Steering Wheel-Mounting in a 911

My car came with an aftermarket wheel and I decided to replace it with something from Porsche. I have decided to go with a 914 steering wheel but I understand that it is not a direct bolt-on item. What do I need to do to make it fit? There are several 914 wheels out there per the parts book. Are there different hubs on the various wheels? Is it just the horn ring that is different? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Steve

If it's a 914/4 wheel, you will need to :

    1) Remove the turnsignal-cancelling ring (3 slotted screws)
    2) Remove the black plastic 'spacer' (4 recessed slotted screws)
    3) Drill/tap/countersink 2 holes for the 911 (metal) turnsignal-cancelling ring

If it's a 914/6 wheel, it should already have the 2 csk threaded holes for the turnsignal-cancelling ring.

I needed to drill and tap nothing to get mine to fit. Be aware, however, that the dish is less than that of the 400mm wheel. As a result, the rim will be a little closer to the dash than is ideal. I made a 1/2" spacer from aluminum for mine. The spacer goes between the hub and wheel. Much has been posted concerning these wheels. If you do a search (try "380mm steering wheel" or "914 Steering Wheel" as search terms) you will find lots of info and photos.

Thanks guys. I did a search and found a lot of info. I just wanted to make sure I had the story straight. I have everything I need but the horn pin and the countersink screws to mount the signal release ring.

    Steve,

Your wheel is a 914/6 part so the cancel ring should screw right on without drilling and tapping.
