    Engine Lids: 1970 911S

    1970 S owners:

I recently looked at a late 1970 911S (August birthday). Although restored, it was reputedly a 70,000 mile car. It had a steel lid and center panel.

I have read that the 1970 S would have had an aluminum lid and center panel.

Is it invariably the case that a 1970 should have the alloy bits?

    Thanks for your help.

Me too, the original lid on the 2.2S from 1971 was in steel and not aluminium. I guess it depended on available stock....

The 2.2S series should come with both an alloy engine lid and number plate panel.
Steel panels could have been ordered as an option no doubt depending on the destination.
After 35 years, well, all kind of events could have happened.
From previous correspondence here,it seems that some of the ' 69Ss could have had these panels too.

    Cheers,
    Dennis .

I have owned my 70S for 29 years,it is also a late production car and it has a steel center panel and steel engine lid which I believe to be original.

    Alloy Lids for 70S?

Thank you for the very helpful replies. It sounds like it could be the original equipment, albeit not the optimal specs for this car. Thanks again for the help.
