    Engine compartment light

I am going to install an engine compartment light and would like to know where to ground this out at. I understand that I should use the passenger side license plate light for power. I have a later wiring harness that is a total of 6 ft. long w/ a provision for a ground @ 4.5ft from where the wiring would terminate into the light, and power @ the end of the harness, 6 ft. I am going to attempt to modify this harness unless someone has an early one to sell me. Any pics of original wiring would be great! BTW the car is a 69. Thanks in advance, Zvi

I tied mine directly into the license plate lamp mini-harness. Keeps things looking neat and clean. Note: this pic was taken before I corrected the mounting, but you get the idea.

So is there a "correct" way to mount this light? The mounting holes are at the far ends of the light floating out there with no place to fasten. Any help would be appreciated

i was going to ask the same question
I have seen some engine lids with a flat piece (with a hole in each end) welded across the centre support. they look "factory" to me but it is hard to tell
was there an extra part added to the engine lid for cars that had the light factory fitted?

In for sale Dean DS has an engine lid with grill etc for sale. You can see the bracket welded to the center lid support. Gled

The original mounting plate was mild steel. It attached with AM4 oval head screws, speednuts & hex nuts.
If you don't want to make one, PM me for steel, stainless, aluminum, or ?

Here's a 74-early 75 decklid below with factory holes for an engine compartment light (m482) . They are the set near center of support bar. Engine compartment light mounting plates were not welded-on til many years later (sometime in 80's , I know they were welded by 1983).

On a ducktail , I believe it was mounted also mid-point on what was left of the support bar. On a early Carrera whaletail , it was mounted on end near grill opening (at least on weissachs - I believe same on 75 Carrera's , or other pre-81 sc's optioned with m473). For 75-77 930 tails....on shield next to driver's side AC hose (same spot if car not AC optioned) . No room on center bar of early 3L 930s because of 2nd grill intake funnel.

    Rear compartment light fixture

    Hi,

This is the mounting plate we had on our 72T but the lid was probably later since the car had a real good hit at the rear.

The mounting in the pic was upside down. Rotated 360* so the light shines into the engine compartment rather than into the eyes.
