Thread: Dash gauge cleaning?

    Dash gauge cleaning?

    Hey there-
I'd like to clean the inside glass surface and the bezels on my dash gauges. Is there a simple way the bezels come off, to take out the glass, or do I have to remove the entire gauge from behind the dash somehow?? The bezels seem to rotate but they rotate the entire gauge instead off screwing by themselves.

Any advice would be MUCH appreciated,

    Al the newbie.

Gauge removal varies with the year of the car. later (70 & up?) cars are simple. The gauges are held in place by the rubber grommet. You just twist & pull. For cleaning the inside glass? That's another kettle of fish. I've read tech articles written by people who have done it. I'd leave such a chore to the pros at N. Hollywood speedo...

    Thanks. My "S" is a '67, I wonder there's a difference?

    Al,

You have to get access to the back of the guage to undo the knurled nuts that retain a bracket and hence the guage.

Not hard but don't do something you aren't compfortable with.

A tip Al, try to remember to list your car's year when asking for tech tips. This info can be a big help...

I did this on my '73, but they were not retained in the back by a retaining bracket with nuts. Here is a good link http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...uge_repair.htm

This is extremely tedius, time consuming, and you have to be meticulous. This is not easy. If you have any doubts about your extended patience, then send them off to be professionally done by N. Hollywood Speedo.
