    Optima Batteries for early cars

Does anyone have a part # handy for the optima batteries that fit in the early cars?

Any bad experiences with them that I should be aware of?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Some people have complained of short lives, but I am happy with mine. Mine is the smuggler's compartment, so my part number won't help you if you are looking for two batteries for the stock locations.

I didn't like the fact they would have to be turned on their sides to fit so went with the correct fit Interstate batteries

Got mine on it's side for a year now and no leaks. Gell cell. Not sure of life span, I disconnect mine when not in use.

any part # on the interstate version? - I'm not too picky, but the Porsche ones currently in the car are spent.

    Thanks,

Good batteries. The 50 designates 50 month life cycle. I got 7 years out of the last pair. Specific to a 911, so fit is as good as anything to be found.

    gel cell batteries

Sonnenschein gel cel is available in a size that fits LWB cars perfectly. They have been discussed here before. Search for "Sonnenschein".

If you've got good battery boxes, this is the best $18 of insurance you'll ever have - the spray coating I did 10 years ago is still in great shape, and the liner catches anything that might leak, plus helps keeps the battery from moving around and/or scratching the coating when you wrestle it out.

I use an Optima Group 34 battery (red top with SAE terminals only) turned on its side. I use a trickle charger all the time, as the car doesn't get driven in the winter and the stereo I have draws some current all of the time (damn station memory feature).

My first one lasted 7 years.
