    Speedometer Stopped Working

The speedometer in my '73 S stopped working yesterday. I suppose I don't really need it as I know my speed from the RPM, but I would like to get it working. Is there a typical way that these usually fail? Should I just pull it out and send it to Palo Alto Speedo or somesuch? Original miles on the odometer are 70,000 and I would like to keep that accurate.

    Thanks for your help.

They can "fix" the speedo for you and keep the odo accurate. My guess? Broken speedo cable. They (I use N. Hollywood) can make one of those for you as well.

I would first try replacing the speedo cable (you probably should replace anyway if you do have to go the rebuilt speed route). Its far more cost effective to try that first and its a 'fun' exercise in getting to know your tunnel better. I replaced mine in 3 hours, just figuring it out as I went. I did attach a strong string to the cable as I removed from the speedo end out through the tunnel to the tranny.

This is the best price I found for OEM http://replacement.autopartswarehous...Cable&dp=false

It's probably either the cable, a cable connection, or that gear that runs off the transaxle.
