    June 2006 Excellence

I read with great interest the 5 pages in the "New Excellence Same Under- Evaluation" thread as they were occuring. Now I get my June issue and the Excellence paradox continues. The first paragraph of the 356 Market update..."So, like the market for early 911s, the 356 game is really heating up." Then in the article about the updated slant nose turbo quotes.."The current air cooled rage is "longhood" 1965-73 911's." and then in the readers sales reports the first car listed is a mostly original, mostly rust-free 1967 911 with a 914 box that went for the measly sum of $4,500 followed by a 73S which is described as tastefully modified that went for a reasonable $50K. Like everthing else demand makes the market. I think Excellence does no one any good by basing their evaluations on cars like these and should stick to their other content which usually is Excellent.
    Currently:
    67 3.6 Rocket "Silver"
62 T6 Outlaw Coupe "ole Yellow"
65 F100 Custom Cab Flairside Shortbed

Gone but not forgotten in last 2 years:
    67S Concours King
    67 912 Vintage Racer
    68 912 Flipper
    83 911SC
    93 Mo30 968

    too many cars before that

The values in our Market Update tables are not based on Readers Sales Reports; the latter are only examples...which we use as a reality check for our tables -- taken with big grains of salt when necessary, of course.

Does anyone put any value on our cars based on history with current owner? I can remember some very key moments with my 911:

I drove to the hospital in it for the birth of our third child
    My first laps at Sebring
I took my oldest daughter to the emergency room for the first (and only) time
My son's favorite car and first recognised
First trip on the Dragon (highly recommended)

    many others.
This makes my car priceless.... but only to me. Am I overtly sentimental?

If you become famous - esp. in Porsche Motorsports - then that will add to the value others place on your car.

Otherwise, yes, you are overtly sentimental, tho not overly so.
