31 degrees is steep! Just for grins, I looked on the track maps page for Fontana and it says the D-oval is a 2-mile track with 14 degree banking in the turns, 11 on the front straight, and 3 on the back straight. That makes Daytona twice as steep in the turns! I couldn't find the radius of the banked turns at Fontana, but Daytona's are 1000', and it's a 2.5 mile Tri-oval, so Fontana may be less, as it's a shorter D-oval. Anybody know the radius on turns 1 and 2 at Fontana?

Homestead-Miami Speedway is fun to drive and has a spin on the banking. It varies from 18 degrees in the bottom groove to 20 degrees near the outside wall. Whilst I prefer the club course where you do not use the banking, the Grand Am course uses turns 3/4 which provides a bit of both worlds and its quite a hoot and gives you a break to breathe in.

Back to Daytona, the radius is such that you must look "up" to see what's coming. Remember the additional windscreen on the 917s.......
