001 and 005 MFI pumps - which is more correct for an early '69S?

As we all know, the '69S had two correct MFI pumps: the 001 and the 005. Does anyone know when the change was made and why? They both look the same and both have two solenoids, vs. the one solenoid of the later pumps. My car was one of the first '69S cars made. Could someone please clue me in as to which is the most correct for my car?

    MFI pumps

Hello: If you have an early car then you would have the 001 pump. That is the pump to have for mods for bigger engines. I used one for my 3.0 engine and it works great after you have it modified. The 001 pump also has cone type bearings and I think the 005 has ball roller bearings like the later pumps. I'll have to take one apart to check for sure. When Porsche changed over who knows. Back then it was when they ran out of pumps or parts. Thanks Eric

Damn. I have a 005 pump right now. I missed a poorly labelled 001 yesterday on Ebay by $5. It wasn't in super shape, but $405 was a deal. Who kows, the winner might have had a max bid of much higher than my $401.

    MFI pump

Kenik: Let me check to see if I have any 001 pumps left. Since you have an early 69 S I will sell it to you if you want. Also have any parts to trade? Thanks Eric

Cool! Yeah, I have a very nice 005 pump that was checked out by Matt Blast last year to be within spec.

    MFI pump

Kenik: Sorry to tell ya only have 2-005 pumps and 3-006 pumps plus 10 other pumps and some other odds and ends. If I was you I would just run what you have no one will know the difference except you and maybe the car came with that pump? Sorry about that. Thanks Eric

Oh well; I am sure the 005 will do. I do kinda regret losing out on that 001 now, though.

    MFI pump

Kenik: Maybe this would help you decide what engine number do you have? I have an original 69 engine that I bought complete with pump etc. I'll check the case number for ya to see if you should have the 001 or 005 pump. My case came with the 005 pump for sure. Thanks Eric

Very cool! My case is 0080, for reference. I wonder who bought Bill Noon's old '69S. I think our cars were less than 5 numbers apart.
