    Early 911 rear deck

Does anyone know of a source for the rear shelf metalwork for the 911? It seems to be the one impossible to find component. If I could setup a local fab shop to make some would there be any interest in a limited run to fix up those rusty ones out there?

Have you considered any of the Porsche wrecking yards? They could probably cut the piece to order.

Generally, from what I'm being told in other forums, is that the wrecking yard stuff is just as rusty. A company like Restoration Design really needs to figure out how to do this, but I'm sure a competent fab shop could do it.

    Paul:

I've had good luck with Parts Heaven. Bought a section of front bulkhead once. It looked like the just cut the car in half and sent me what I wanted.

I bought a used rear deck from EASY. It was close to perfect, and reasonably priced, and fit perfectly. It was, it must be said, a lot of work to prep and install.

I never tried those two. Thanks, I'll look into this. I heard Stoddards at Hershey had complete rear bulkheads (not sure what they're called) where the engine lid latches down...the whole thing across for $75.00. Gotta call those fellers.

Paul - please post your results. The rear deck on my 69 is gone and I'm facing that repair when I decide to leap into it.

    Thanks,
    Keith

HA! Although a friend just pulled apart his clean dry 66 that lived it's whole life in AZ/CA and found lots of hidden rust. I think early Porsches rust just to spite the laws of thermodynamics.

I'm sure that my car, being from Vancouver Island (parts unknown before that) saw no shortage of rain water due to plugged rear window drains. May also explain the decibel level inside the car

    Early 911 rear deck

About 2 yaers ago restoration design got a rear deck in fairly good condition from a guy here in Minnesota so they could replicate it. I have not heard if they are making them yet or not. It might help if people would start calling them to try and speed up the process. As everyone who has an early car needs one, the demand is high.
