    The elusive 911S

I keep looking for the right car but it must be hiding from me. I have been on all of the usual web sites to try and locate a good no stories car, and it is eluding me. So now I would like to enlist the help of this group. If anyone has or knows the location of a real honest 911S for sale I promise I will give it a good home. My dream car would be a 72 or 73 but am open to all years. I would like to hear about any thing that is truly special. My car is out there somewhere, maybe with your help we can lure it out into the open.

How large is your budget and what are you willing to spend? Do you want a perfectly restored example? One that is in excellent shape with no issues, but not perfect? One with issues that can be fixed up by throwing money at it. A hot rod? Or do you want something that runs but needs major restoration? The dollars can range from $60K (or more) to $10K or less.

I sure any of us would be willing to sell you a nice S for the right price.

You need to give us some hints with out giving away your financial position.

Well said Rick. Your words may come as a shock to someone who only uses Excellence as reference for values, but as has been repeated ad nauseam on websites all over the net, Bruce's numbers are low.

A nice (not perfect) car will cost you $30K from conventional sources; real deals ($25K or less) come through luck and the ability to jump before someone else. If you have $30K to spend on a really nice 'S', there are a few still for sale on this site, including Tom Dance's '69S. Don't despair on the luck side. I know a guy that just bought a very nice '70S for $4000.

Truly special to me means a perfect car that is mostly original and thus in the ballpark of $60 - $75K.

I am looking for a decent honest car that I can drive on a regular basis. I prefer the coupe over the Targa. I don’t want a trailer queen but I want something I can drive to events and be proud of. I don’t want to do a major restoration but I don’t mind attending to some interior work or light mechanical (brakes, suspension, etc). If there are heavier mechanical issues I guess I don’t really mind that as long as it is priced accordingly. I don’t want to deal with any rust issues. I want something with matching numbers and prefer the motor stock, that said I could live with some mild hot rodding as long as it has the original components (matching numbers). An older restoration that has held up well would be great. As far as my budget goes, I really want to spend less than $50k, I would like to spend less than $40k. There are certainly cars out there I can’t afford, but I should be able to find a nice car within my budget. I would really prefer to deal with an owner rather than a dealer/broker. And again your help is very much appreciated.

No S registry number yet, I have sent in the cash and am waiting for my membership materials to arrive.

As far as the red 73 in NY I ended up passing on the car. With the help of some of the folks here and others I was encouraged to let that car go. Too many unknowns and too may things altered on the car. It cost me a few bucks to unwind the deal but I guess that is the cost of gaining knowledge.

    Steve,

IMO you are going about the search the best way possible and your budget seems reasonable for what you want and you live in the best area for finding such a car or networking with those that might know of one for sale. Have you driven any cars yet? I would expand your search for a 2.2S also. Those are really fantastic engines, especially at 5 to 7K RPM.

As you know we are headed to a big event in northern CA where there will be many cars and owners that know of other cars. I would be happy to keep my ears open and if I hear of one for sale pass it on to you for consideration. Thanks for joining the registry and supporting the club, website, etc.
