    Auction Description:

    - One of 16 cars delivered with 'Aubergine' paintwork
    - Matching numbers, ex-Collection JC Miloé
    - One of the best Porsche 911s of all time
    - Delivered with its original seats

The 'Carrera RS' was the first true 'client-competition' version of the 911 and is still considered to be one of the best 911s ever built. To develop this version, the constructor relied on a tried and tested formula: reducing the weight and increasing the power. Aesthetic modifications, such as wider rear wheel arches to accommodate larger wheels and a rear 'duck tail' spoiler made their appearance. For the interior, clients could choose between 'Touring' trim similar to the 911 S production model, or 'Lightweight' trim, which was stripped out to reduce the weight further. The final number built exceeded 1500, well above the 500 initially planned to gain GT homologation. Building on this incredible success, the model evolved to incorporate new features, in line with racing regulations, maintaining the 'client-competition' tradition that few other marques have been able to match as consistently.

The 2.7 RS that we are presenting has several unique qualities. As its Porsche certificate indicates, it was delivered new in Germany on 8 January 1973 in one of the rarest colours: Aubergine (ref. 4040) with a black headlining (ref. 025). Only 16 RS models were delivered in this colour. Its engine, no. 6630402, is the one with which it left the factory, fitted to chassis no. 0377. It is thus one of the first 500 built, with a lighter body due to the use of thin-gauge steel.
This iconic model of the marque has been in the hands of the son of one of the greatest French collectors, who registered it on 20 January 2005, acquiring it from another leading Porsche collector, Jean-Claude Miloé. M. Miloé had himself purchased the car from Jean-Patrick Flandé, who kept it for a good ten years and drove it for some 90.000 km. He had bought it in Switzerland in the mid-1980s. Since then, it has been maintained by Valentin Kaiser, the widely known manager of the Porsche Classic Center in Paris. He rebuilt the engine when the car was owned by M. Flandé, and at the same time the 16in wheels were fitted and improvements made to the oil system. The current owner had the original seats (which will be supplied with the car) replaced by more heavily bolstered Recaro seats offering increased comfort. He told us that he had never driven the car on track, using it only to travel to his family home in the Sologne or for leisure trips. In very good condition, well maintained and fitted with its original engine, this is one of only 16 2.7 RS Tourings finished in 'Aubergine' and one of the first 500 built. A rare find for any lover of the make and model!

    1973 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 2.7 RS

    Sold 25 November 2021: A$875,500 plus fees
    (US$630k)

    KEY FACTS

Needing little introduction, this 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is an eye-catching example of one of the most desirable drivers’ cars, in an exceptionally rare factory colour.
The 2.7-litre flat-six motor with Bosch mechanical fuel injection is mated to a Type 915 five-speed manual transmission.
A left-hand drive car presented with low mileage; it is also reported to have a detailed history file.
    EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

Developed in order for Porsche to meet their homologation requirements for motorsport, the ‘73 Carrera RS 2.7 was the fastest production 911 the marque had produced, and it had a confident claim as one of the best road cars in the world.
The 2.7-litre engine incorporated their experience dominating sports car and prototype racing, as well as a stiffer and more finely honed suspension setup.
The RS had an even more alluring shape thanks to the iconic ‘ducktail’ rear wing and flared arches housing wider rear wheels, bigger tyres and bigger brakes.
This particular RS 2.7 was ordered from the factory in the remarkably rare hue of Jade Green (code 227).
In Touring specification, it features chromed front and rear bumper trims, and would originally have had the chrome trim strips along the sills – although these are not present.
Factory options on this car include additional heating, rear window heating, the limited slip-differential, Recaro sports seats for the passenger and driver, exterior Carrera script and strips, electric antenna with speakers, and a sliding sunroof.
It is sold with the original handbooks and advertising booklets, Pflegepass and ownership certificate, tool kit, tyre compressor and literature as well as an impressive service history and collection of spare parts including headlights, badges, air and oil filters and the original Blaupunkt radio and cassette system.
    CONDITION

Believed to be highly original and unrestored, its bodywork appears straight and smart.
The Jade Green paintwork is in impressive condition, presenting only mild ‘patina’ and some small stone chips in expected areas such as around the front and wheel arches.
Inside, the black vinyl and corduroy upholstery is thought to be original, and is very well preserved down to the original seat belts. The other textiles and trim are in great shape.
It is believed to be in sound mechanical condition, and with no known electrical faults nor issues with controls or gauges.
The most recent roadworthiness test was carried out in September 2021 and the car passed without issue.
    SERVICE HISTORY

Armstrong Porsche in Wellington most recently serviced the car at 68,000 km, with work including a Warrant of Fitness check ahead of sale.
Porsche Wellington also performed the two previous services, carrying out routine maintenance.
    SUMMARY

A car good enough that many still call it the best 911 ever built, and which is dubbed the ‘Holy Grail’ by its current custodian, this 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is a very smart example of one of the most iconic classic cars of all time. In Touring specification, it is even more usable, while the exceptionally rare and original factory colour makes it a particularly appealing opportunity for marque collectors.

agree it has done "something hundred" and 68 thousand KM's whether the "something" is 100, 200 300 or more is unable to be quantified without a good set of paperwork which this car seems to have.
but even if it is 268,000 Kms over 48 years that is only 5580 kms a year or 3500 miles a year - not much for a car like that.

I consider my 73E as a relatively low mileage car and it has done 237,000 MILES or just under 5000 miles a year. I think you almost need to do that many to keep the mechanical side as well as seals etc in good order - after all these cars are supposed to be used not just looked at

and given the odometer only goes up to 99,999 it is accurate to say it reads 68,000

for interest it seems to have sold for $875,500K Australian plus costs and fees or about 628,000 USD at today's exchange rate

    Auction Description:

    * One of just 200 lightweight "Sport" versions.
    * Matching numbers.

The Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS Lightweight chassis number 9113601443 is one of the 200 lightweight versions, produced in 1973 and delivered in Italy in June of the same year; the car has always remained in Italy. The car had seven previous owners and a Group 3 racing history with the driver Giorgio Taufer, a protagonist of the S. Martino di Castrozza rally. With Taufer, the car ran the 1974-'77 seasons, hitting three overall victories and five class victories, including the GR.3 1975 and 1977 European championship stages. The restoration was made by the Melli brothers of Pentacar in Italy, a company specializing in racing Porsche; the restoration lasted five years between 2005 and 2010; since the end of the works, the car has travelled just over 2,000 km. Melli brothers reset the odometer at the end of the restoration. The car has matching numbers, and it is painted in the classic white Grand Prix colour with blue lettering and rims; the car has the characteristics of the Lightweight versions, with the lightened glasses of Glaverbel, the Recaro bucket seats with manual adjustment (with optional headrests a request), smooth door panels, no clock, glove drawer and no carpet in the interior. The bodywork has fibreglass bumpers and rubber hooks for closing the engine bonnet. In the front compartment, the carpet and all the sound-absorbing material are not present (another feature of the Lightweight). The car is equipped with the optional limited-slip differential from the Carrera 2.7 RS range; an additional engine oil cooler has been installed in the appropriate front compartment. By choice of the owner was inserted the opening mechanism of the engine hood and a double brake pump. The car comes with ASI and FIVA certificate and Porsche's certificate of origin.

The Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS Lightweight or Sport was one of the available versions of the Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS, the sports model of the 911 range presented in Paris in 1972 and the first Porsche to bear the name "Carrera". The Lightweight was identified with the code M471 and shared the mechanics of the Carrera 2.7 RS, but benefited from some changes to reduce weight, such as the fibreglass bumpers, lighter glass, the absence of rear seats and door panels; thanks to the adoption of these and other details, the weight dropped from 1,100 kg to just 960 kg, making the 2.7 RS Lightweight a thoroughbred sports car capable of reaching 245 km / h, and shooting from 0-100 km/h in just 5.4 ". The Carrera 2.7 RS had a huge commercial success; instead of the 500 units originally planned, Porsche produced 1500 units to satisfy the request, of which 200 in the "Lightweight" version. The Carrera 2.7 RS allowed Porsche to homologate the model in the GT category and collected excellent racing results in both the 2.7 and 2.8 RSR versions. The competition model derived directly from the Carrera 2.7 RS.
