Personally, no matter what I pay for a car, if I need to sell, I want market value.

eBay will not let you make a 6-figure bid without contacting them and providing some evidence of ability to pay. I went through this on a 67S Softie that I "won" for a client (the seller, Tom Shaughnessy claimed 'his assistant failed to stop the auction and the car had been sold outside of eBay - but that's another story). So, I imagine anyone who was waiting until the last minutes to bid was c*ckblocked by eBay and had to spend time on hold waiting to talk to a human to get clearance to bid. That is why I agree with the 'not the place...' comment. Seems to me $100K+ was left on the table. Good chance we'll see this car again soon, in a proper selling venue.

What makes you think the deal will go through, if the seller is reading the feed back here maybe he will not let the car go. Less than 50% of the car sales on Ebay actually happen, its just a marketing tool.

You never know. Sometimes people think its a matter of personal integrity to follow through.

My guess is the owner was ready to move the car.
To get this car ready for a big auction venue would have required time and money.

As a driver quality RS that has not been fully restored, I feel the price was in the ball park.
My estimate was 500k. Last year, at the right auction it might have found a bigger fish given the crazy money being tossed around at less then concours 911s.

The car was repainted long ago with new front fenders and a 2.9L. That was about its only downfall apart from its natural age. Not really too big of a deal IMO.

You could spend 200k to restore this car today and ask $750k tomorrow.

I think the car was too nice to restore and begs to be driven as is.

At $500k, I was out because i am happy with my other long hoods at less then half that price and i know i can build a tribute car for less if i really just wanted to drive a RS for the fun of it rather then the idea of owning collector VIN tag and title $$. I am a driver, not a collector. I would only devalue it.

I really liked the car however. The history, the patina, the overall conditon and color combo.
An affordable real RS for those not looking for concours.

I hear ya Frank, but your average buyer doesn't think that way. Also, I think I saw aluminum rear control arms on that car. Seller said missing LSD I believe.
Things add up in the buyers head. Heck, I have had nice cars for sale for a very fair price, but will need a timing belt soon, and a round of rubber. Buyer sees dollars signs coming out of pocket and runs.
Bottom line...well bought in todays market, and seller seemed to fire sale it.

The motor and tranny were both replaced.
Not sure what they did with the tired originals.

    Still, a fully restored car.

I see you came to your senses Frank.

Seller left $100K on the table with a reserve way too low on eBay of all places.
