    Hi Mike
All well down here! Got car on the road earlier this year. Running with a Bainbridge 2.8 short stroke bitza motor at present, so I could get suspension set up. Twin plug engine nearly done and original engine going for full job shortly.
    Hope all well with you
    Regards
    Nick

    Hi Nick

Good news on the engines. It’s been a while since I saw your lovely RS. Hope our paths cross sometime soon. I think it’s been 5 years since the Scottish run and maybe more since we were at Spa.

    Regards
    Mike

    Dealer Description:

    - A fully matching numbers first 500 series
    - 1 of only 23 examples finished in Chartreuse
    - Delivered new to Switzerland in December 1972
    - Exceptionally well maintained under its current ownership including a full engine rebuild
    - Original books, RS suppliment and tools

    Factory Options:
    - Sport seats finished in perlon cord
    - Twin-circuit brakes with warning light
    - Fanfare horns with low frequency
    - 3-point safety belts

Delivered new in December 1972 to an official Porsche dealer in Switzerland, chassis number 0164 was amongst the first 500 in the production run. The car was purchased by Jack Logan at two years old. He took the car to 'Lightweight' specification using OEM parts, including seats. It has period correct Repa harnesses with remanufactured orange stripe webbing.

With just three owners from new, and benefitting from a full bare-metal restoration whilst in Switzerland in 2000, this is a well-documented example of the Carrera RS. It was treated to a full engine and gearbox rebuild in 2010 by Porsche Centre Swindon. #0164 is currently presented in M471 'Lightweight' specification but was delivered new in M472 'Touring' specification.

Posting this here from another thread so it is among the Carrera RS information for those who might be interested.
September 75 three years after the October 72 launch of the Carrera RS the new 911 Turbo didn't significantly move the perfomance on in the "real world" range to 20-90mph. Comparison same magazine title, same road test protocols.

    IMG_20190924_100013.jpg

    Also 0-90mph
    IMG_20190924_100042.jpg

Top speed turbo 153 Carrera RS 149 mph.

More to it than acceleration figures; lightness wrt dynamics of the earlier cars are other factors not fully evident in the acceleration charts.

Looks like a diesel Traktor test. 1300rpm and 2nd or 3rd gear at 20mph?

    Hi Cees,

I was just looking through Landenburg auction catalogue this morning and was planning to post up this photo to go along with Steve's post. What are bidding on?

Man, H von H had the worst looking teeth of anyone who worked at Porsche back in the day. I am surprised he never 'pushed the reset button' and went to full dentures for a total restoration of his smile. Better than new.

    Cheers Cees!

Hi Brian: Great to see you posting.

I happen to have some roadtest figures for an M472 to hand from something I was discussing worth Hugh today. Different British car magazine to the source I posted above. Sharing for info.

The often quoted 0 to 60 mph benchmark not that useful but in 5.5s for a lardy ass luxurious first series rhd M472 touring; not too shabby in those days. The top speed 153 here is same as 75/6 Turbo but other sources for RS usual say around 149-150 which is why the tyre shaving and the comment on that surprisingly high top speed of the HvH record setting car caught my eye. Might have more on the record run in my files.

Moustache and teeth were probably his trademark, classic appearance IMHO. Good to see you are posting here. No bidding for me, only the German 1973 price list is interesting although rather have an Italian version (did those exist?).
M1XL is such a nice car, only not lime green but chartreuse!!! Can't they get that right???

    Cheers, Cees

BTW, has anyone here tried the Vmax of his RS? I got mine up to 235 km/hr and some left
