Little known fact: RSL was the internal factory designation for the model everyone now refers to as Touring. "L" stands for luxus auf Deutsch, luxury in English. Not trying to be snarky- it may help you avoid confusion in your search.

RSH: Homologation (first 500ish that were so built, then homologated, then all but a few were converted by the factory before customer delivery)
RS: The Sport model that is often referred to now as lightweight
    RSL: Touring
    RSR: RSR

The lightweight designation is further confused by the first 500 or so that used thinner panels and glass, etc., whether the car became an RS (Sport) or an RSL (touring). Sometimes people are referring to the first 500 when they say "lightweight", sometimes to the model designation, so best to clarify. Your ultimate catch would be an RS (or RSH!!) with a serial number of 510 or below (first 10 serial numbers were reserved for prototypes). (The strangest one is the RSH that has a serial number in the 1400's. Not sure what that even means...)

Doing this from memory and if I have anything amiss i'm sure someone will correct.

It might be my eyes, or my computer, but in the picture of under the hood on the right side with the carpeting pulled back, I don't see a battery box. Also, the mounting receivers for the 8mm bolts that hold the oil cooler in place are gone. Bolts going through from the inside.

Late number RSH cars probably were homologating a specific item, like short trailing arms or ALU crankcase. A question I’ve asked many times, were RSH cars just lack of conversion to 471/472 or was there a change they were trying to get approved? G

While we’re on this subject I’d love to know what the opinion is on “First 500” cars vs later cars that were also built using Lightweight panels. My understanding is (clearly this may be wrong) that the factory continued to make Lightweight panel cars well into the second 500 cars produced. I was also told that of the RS Sport (now known as Lightweight) not many of those cars were in the first 500 and indeed some were made quite late in the run of 1500 cars and thus didn’t have lightweight steel panels. Is that correct ?

Just trying to educate myself/confirm what I was told !
