Thread: 1973 Carrera RS Cars for Sale

  1. #2041
Wow. A huge amount of interesting information !

So the term “Heavy Lightweight” is that slang for Lightweight cars that were among the last 500 cars made ? I.e. despite having lightweight features like the bumpers and interior the steel panels weren’t the thinner gauge steel ?

Also from what’s been written in the previous few posts when dealers today refer to “First 500” as RS nirvana whilst they are in that magic first batch of cars the realty is these cars are very similar to the “Second 500” cars are made of the same thinner gauge steel ?

The first 500 cars had a few extra features of "lite", such as the horn push pad was plastic, and the ducktail had a aluminum base instead of steel. Both of those features ended even before they hit 500.

    Ha! Never thought of that.

Agree that the RSH is interesting primarily for rarity. Didn't they even have 6" wheels all around to keep weight down? Not what you'd want for competition. Probably other weight-saving mods that that would require modification for racing as well.

I am sure you have seen 0810. Much talked about history and at least one fake 0810 somewhere around...

    Hi Rick
Thanks for your input, what evidence is there to these parts,as the rsr had a ali ducktail ,even the late build cars,i also believe the ali framed tail was available as a spare part after production finished,so there should not have been any shortage of supply, all grey areas with out clear evidence.Thanks.

reading through the various threads... it looks like there might be three cars with this VIN. One in California that reports to be the original (at least as can be understood from previous posts), one in Hong Kong, and this one that was in Italy and now registered in the UK from Germany...
