    Dealer Description:

Delivered new in May 1973 in France, we find our Porsche 2.7L RS in the 1980s in the hands of Mr. LAMOUILLE, its owner at the time. In 1993 it was bought by Jean-Pierre Rocle and registered in the name of his company "Espace JP Rocle" in Saint Priest in the Loire. The latter is an institution in Saint Etienne as the owner of the Audi-VW dealership. In 2008, when he retired, he registered the car under his name. During all these years the car is entrusted to the good care of Michel Baumet, great specialist of the brand, excellent reputation, it is one of the most talented signature for Porsche in France. The numerous invoices in our file attest to the careful and regular maintenance. After 11 historic Monte Carlo Rallies, he sold this superb RS to its current owner in 2009. Now fully restored with matching numbers, this car corresponds in every detail to its original factory condition. Still very well maintained by its current owner in the same garage that maintains many of the road and competition cars in his collection. The odometer shows 110,636km which seems to be consistent with all the MOT records since 1995. Delivered with a French registration and a Porsche certificate it is a car not to be missed!

Re the yellow car above: I cant quite match it with my database (taken from Georg's books) BUT it might be 9113600852. I cant find any other light yellow LHD M472 can with air and a sunroof but not electric windows. 0852 does have sports seats and L&R head restraints, retractable seat belts and a Becker Mexico radio stereo with cassette. However it is shown as having leather seats not cord , as well as a two stage heated rear screen and limited slip diff
The only car pre January that had both the air and roof is definitely not that car - apart from not having sports seats it had electric windows

I had another thorough look thru my database (searchable with filters) as optioning an RS with air and a sunroof but not electric windows is very rare - air is rare and most cars with air and a sunroof have electric windows as well. I could only find two such cars with air, a roof but not the windows - the yellow 0852 and one other - a German delivered white with blue. (0184) It has the right interior option - sports seats with cord and retractable seat belts - and an antenna but no radio specified It is a December car which fits in much better with the timeline of fitted instruments

So maybe the one repaint mentioned was from original white to light yellow??

    Assuming original instruments:

The clock shows the inscription "VDO Kienzle" This would mean before March 73
The highest digit on the speedometer reads 250. This would mean before January 19,1973
Whoa, steady! I disagree with both the assertions in the quoted text! While I have mph not kph Speedo on my RS I’m pretty sure the Speedometer range on kph version changed a week or two into March of 1973 so be careful using this before 19th January assertion on post quoted above to bracket the production date. Also the quartz clock was only introduced to supercede earlier less accurate one at end of March 73 so think that assertion is also misleading when trying to bracket the production date — before April 73 maybe more correct assertion when bracketing the search!

That 250 kph Speedo, clock type and the vent sticker are all plausible until into March 73 (assuming the instruments on car are original) March is when things start to change.

Another small clue is the sticker on the rear vent window but is easily changed so not usually reliable indicator of production. How many times in this thread is that sticker queried but if that is original the version it was used on al models until around beginning of March. This of not suggests car could have been made up until end of Feb 73.
However, I’d treat that often replaced and often date-incorrect vent window sticker with a healthy dose of scepticism but the instrument versions are a maybe bit more reliable pointer as seems less likely to have changed all three?

Possibly most interesting is the handbrake symbol / position change on the face of the multipurpose instrument because happened during March 73. Not before. The instrument mixture seen in photos suggest it is plausible to be a car built in March 73 even given that cars were not built strictly in Vin sequence.

If so might this make #852 that Hugh suggested the more plausible candidate of the two? The speedometer, clock and most tellingly the handbrake symbol change on this other instrument suggest that this might be a March build date as if assembled before that it would have the different handbrake symbol shape and position (like found on the multipurpose gauge my early RS). The handbrake symbol being the later shape / position to me (if original) is a “tell” that this build is more likely during March. So I suggest (if instruments are its originals what is listed for sale is possibly a March built car; probably more likeley so than one built before Jan 19th as quoted post suggested.

Hard to be certain of course especially if originality of these instruments that are clues is not known, but important to reference correct start date of features if using them to bracket investigations. Of course such component changes do take a while to work through to the actual build especially for non safety critical items as likely any stocks of Speedo, clock etc would’ve been consumed before the later revised versions , I suppose. Also an odd instrument might’ve been swapped out in nearly five decades.

There are the other things in listing that don’t tally with #852 as new so I’m not sure which car it is for sale but I’m simply endeavouring with this post to challenge well intentioned but incorrect assertions posted in the quoted text that if taken as fact might confuse, rather than help.

    Gents,

As the light yellow car raises so much interest, why not simply approach Georg Konradsheim and ask for the actual VIN. This might help to clarify some of the educated assumptions made.
He is a communicative pleasant guy and his contact details are on the web.

I saw the car in the flesh last week in Vienna, it is gorgeous!

    Cheers

I suspect a few of us here have contacts with him over the years so could do as you suggest but what’s the fun in that? ; )

Since you were able to view the car sufficiently to be able to conclude it is a gorgeous example did you not look at its Vin, engine stamp etc?

I am not as versed as some of the above but the double bolt fan housing was changed over for the late build cars no? Also that nippondenso compressor was not used until until many years later so might not be original air although Behr might have been retro fitted.
Also what is that toggle switch on the drivers side under dash about?

David there were three fan strap versions in model year 73: at first two bolt m8 at with black finish to strap; then a two bolt m6 with silver grey galvanised strap used as an interim starting from late calendar 72 ( as pictured in the yellow car); then as you say later a single bolt inhex yellow strap used for rest of year. Some here have said the single inhex bolt yellow later ones were from around March but I think possible might have been used a bit sooner. Think they are visible in the factory video of spring 73. Don’t recall seening a formally documented date change for the three but the version shown in my observation began around December until superseded.
Must say I find identifying this car Vin more challenging than most despite it having some uncommon combinations of things but maybe simply means some components seen in pictures today have been changed from original fit ?

The toggle is the electric sunroof control.

Steve, that is an odd place for the sunroof switch, all the way to the left under the headlamp switch.
Sunroof toggle is under the instrument cluster for as long as I can remember.

That toggle hanging, looks like a window switch from a 964 or later.
