The jade green RS sold for GB£615,000. There were only about 100 RHD model 73
RS and about fifty of those were the first 500 series quota.

There is a buyers premium at the Goodwood Revival auction at this price point and the VAT of 20 where applicable on the premium not to be overlooked!

    IMG_6925.jpg

That’s just under US $888k for a RHD EG C16 for a rare first 500 series M472 Touring with sunroof,

The press at the time of the launch writing about the RHD touring demonstrator unlike today was clear - “homolgaton special” is the first term the author used in the road test summary of a sister RHD Touring in the 006x vin range back in early 1973:

    IMG_6943.jpg

After Porsche made 500 then decided to make 500 more to get for groups 3 and 4 certification the memo below shows that Porsche as a policy decision ceased with the special RS build procedures that has been used for these earliest cars (most of the remainder of production about 500 late examples were essentially production cars
    IMG_6799.jpg
    IMG_6945.jpg
This www translation may not be as good as our German native speakers can do but it is clear porsche made the decision to stop using the special for RS build procedures that it lists — this is excerpt not fill Mel but it goes on to list what things to stop and start… for example stop making from .8 thinner body panels, drop the unique RS lighter forged crossmember revertong heavier series steel part. Effectively the “homologation special” did in essence becine a production as the perceptive journalist had. With impact bumper Carrera 2.7 mfi for sure a normal production car but this memo is revealing coming as I does when roughly 500 more of the RS were still to be built but ( of the parts and procedures that had hitherto made it “homologation special” were formally instructed to be stopped. I bet Porsche didn’t pint out to customers that had activly stopped making them with special parts using special process when they did a higher priced third RS series!

Note this Porsche internal document specifically instructs changes the specification and stood named RS specific build procedures once certification was achieved! It is clear the essence of the RS special programme and cars it was producing in unconventional ways had at that point changed. Debates about a small contingency, some chassis consuming some panels, a transition— a a few late examples getting Silumin cases and revised rear geometry so possibly had a role homologate those features, some late cars didn’t get M471/2 etc etc. However the those things don’t change the fundamental fact that this memo clearly shows the 1000 examples are the “homologation specials”!

I’ve posted the before but note the press at the time of writing clearly understood it well the 51 were lightweight specials even though there was only a handful of M471 Sport examples among that particular RHD quota— all 51 be they Touring or Sport conversion order are all correctly identified as lightweight 911 coupes:
    image.jpeg

Without the M472 Touring conversion to make the stripped out cars attractive to real buyers Porsche would’ve only sold about 2-300 ans even then by the end of the model year so the homologation programme would’ve completely failed to meet the FiA volume target and not 911 been certified.

Maybe some buyers are appreciating what documents from 1972/3 show — first series with touring conversion are “lightweight coupes” “homologation special”
    — the cars like this one sold out immediately at the launch on October 1972. I’d wager the new owner will enjoy folks who comment about it “a Touring not a lightweight.”

Enjoy them all first second or third series but let’s not lose the plot when “segmenting” of the Carrera RS as the model spec, build procedures (indeed as shown by memo the model’s very raison d’etre changed) during the year. Paying more for an RS that isn’t to the specifications and special build process that made it a “homolgation special” is a buyer’s prerogative. A late M471 Sport with less trim and because of that less weight might look like it should be one of the 1000 examples referred to in the internal memo i
when compared to a more luxurious trim in an early M472 Touring. But be careful — appearances can sometimes be deceptive!

Or maybe an unusual colour is more important than a lighter-weight chassis playing a part in achieving certification such that the 911 could become front and centre of the factory racing program in response to the FiA that was marginalising the use of its bespoke racers like 917?

    1973 Porsche 2.7L 911 Carrera RS RHD - Jade Green 15.jpg

    Auction Description:

    • Rare original UK-supplied right-hand drive model
    • One of the first 500 cars (with the thinner-gauge panels)
    • One of only 11 worldwide delivered in Jade Green (and the only RHD)
    • Present ownership for 23 years
    • Serviced and maintained by independent specialists
    • Immaculate condition
    • Extensive history file

Manufactured on 18th January 1973 and registered in the UK on 16th February that year, chassis '9113600471' is a right-hand drive matching-numbers Carrera RS to M472 Touring specification. In addition to being one of the first 500 cars, which had lighter body panels constructed from thinner gauge steel, this Carrera RS is one of only 11 cars worldwide to be painted in Jade Green, and the only right-hand drive example. In addition, '0471' was supplied new with a limited-slip differential, a highly desirable option on a car like this.

0471 is a very well-known car, featuring in Peter Morgan's Original Porsche 911 reference book (page 47 onwards). The Carrera has been owned by various well-known 911 connoisseurs and has been in the current owner's collection for 23 years. The car has covered a documented circa 69,000 miles and is in superb original condition, right down to the orange colour of the enamel bonnet badge, a rare original feature. Chassis '0471' is all too rare in combining a scintillating, taut driving experience with the original aura, smells and patina of a top-flight classic.

The car has been subject to sympathetic maintenance over the years by leading specialists. It comes with original keys, jack, first aid kit, tool roll and the all-important Driver's Manual Supplement. It is also supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche.

The 2.7 Carrera RS is widely accepted as being not only one of the most significant cars launched by Porsche but, more broadly, one of the greatest sports cars of all time. The driving experience offered is all-consuming, combining a sonorous, rev-happy motor with the most sensitive and direct steering imaginable. The 2.7 RS deserves its legendary status and provides a welcome antidote to many of today's bloated, overweight, and overcomplicated offerings. We believe that it would be difficult to find an example as original and in such good condition as '0471'.

    Anyone notice this faux pas?

    https://www.bonhams.com/auction/2799...-663049191183/

The "restoration shop" didn't remove the paint tag and re-install it after the chassis was painted. Drive rivets are CHEAP. Quick buck sort of work with odds that other corners were cut.

This BAT car used screws on the paint tag! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...911s-coupe-25/
    It did not sell.

    Dealer Description:

    Options / Equipment:
    - 472 Touring version
    - 102 Rear windows in 2 parts, tinted and heated
    - 409 Right and left leather sports seats
    - 419 Seat belts

    - 651 Electric windows

Our example, chassis 1031, was delivered new in 1973 to its first German owner who kept it until 1983 and 90,000 km. The Alméras Brothers import the vehicle on behalf of the second client, who in turn keeps and scrupulously maintains the vehicle for 30 years. Dedicating a true cult to his vehicle, he will keep each element of maintenance invoices, adjustments, repairs, mail exchanges, photos or significant events around his vehicle, constituting a thick history file allowing him to follow its history, its developments and his journey.
It will evolve according to the factory's recommendations with official parts to obtain an FIA GT group 3 passport in 2000. 1031 will therefore experience its hour of glory, going out, racing and exposing itself without remaining hidden in a garage. It will be seen in particular 5 times at the Tour Auto (1993, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2008), and in various important Porsche meetings in Germany or even exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in 2008. It will also stand out in the press as M6 turbo in 2006, sportwagen, flat 6 or even autoretro.
30 years later, 1031 changed hands for the third time and passed into the hands of a Porsche collector who will continue to rigorously maintain the car. It bows out in competition but will be used very regularly by the latter.
This legendary (and well-known to the Porsche club RS France) 2.7 carrera RS is now available for sale, it notably benefited between 2019 and 2021 from a repair of the gearbox, the engine and a waterproofing. this last. She is therefore ready for a new adventure at the age of 50!
It comes with its history file and some spare parts.
This RS is undoubtedly one of the best documented and clear available on the market. It is visible by appointment only.

Jade Green is a super nice color, not so nice is the cheap looking yellow plastic cap on the oiltank.
The front suspension sits too low..does not benefit the stance and ride quality of the car.

    Dealer Description:

    - Original color scheme in light yellow repainted about 20 years ago and interior in black faux leather/fabric combination
    - Ownership history is completely known with only four owners in Northern Germany, including over 30 years with the penultimate owner
    - Original care pass and on-board literature as well as extensive invoice documentation available
    - The engine was rebuilt to RS specifications by a recognized engine specialist; Technology partially revised

The Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS was launched in 1972 for homologation for rally and racing and became a bestseller. Instead of the required 500 units, 1,580 vehicles were ultimately produced, 1,308 of which were comfort-optimized “touring” versions. Today, this 911 version is one of Porsche's legendary and rare classic models. This 911 Carrera RS Touring (code M472) was delivered via the Schmidt-Koch car dealership in Bremen and was first registered to a company in Bremen on December 11, 1972 (name known). Based on the chassis number, it is the 104th vehicle built and is therefore one of the first 500 examples that were manufactured for homologation. The original color scheme was and is “light yellow” (color code 117-8-1) with a black interior, The Recaro sports seats are made of a fabric/artificial leather combination. The paintwork was renewed as part of the partial revision of the body (including the door sills) in the mid-1990s. In April 1980 it was sold to the second owner in Hamburg. In May 1981 the car was passed on to the third owners, a couple in the north of Hamburg.

The old original vehicle registration document for these owners is available. The couple kept the Carrera RS for 33 years and used the car regularly. There are numerous invoices for service, repairs and overhaul work from this time. Some of this, sometimes more extensive, work was carried out by the well-known Porsche 911 specialist Ingostimming in Schleswig-Holstein. The Carrera RS has been with its fourth and current owner in Hamburg since 2014. The engine was rebuilt or overhauled in 2015 by a well-known engine specialist according to Carrera RS specifications with appropriate performance. A corresponding invoice and performance measurement are available. As a result, a new clutch was installed and the existing 915 transmission was revised.
