It's odd, but it looks to me like original tool stamping that has had the surrounding surface milled 0.5mm or so. There's also a discoloration around the type stamp area.

The boss has machining marks on it and the edges are sharp. Here are two views of an original and the "questionable stamping".
A crafty Tig welder could put down enough material to make this better but the simple fact the numbers were stamping on a raw casting makes the marks stick out like a sore thumb. And the FONT isn't correct either.
I took all color out of these to draw your eyes into what is important. Look at the area around the sending unit. Material is missing - too "pretty".

So what about this one? Interesting engine, since it was a replaced by aluminum engine 6631455 for homologation purposes. Maybe matching car 9113601490 is still out there? Not mine.

I would be very careful with this one in Belgium.
9113600767 is well alive in Milan in the hands of the same owner that bought it in 1974. I know it and it's very original and unmolested.

I have had general knowledge of this car (58) for several years. Never looked at it to buy it as it has always seemed somewhat inaccessible to me...
In my opinion, it looks very nice, indeed. It has been owned since the 80s by the same CT-based collector who I will not name here. Looked after as needed by Auto Associates during this person's ownership.
It was on display at the Hershey museum last Jan-April as part of their special exhibit on Porsche History. If you saw that exhibit, you have seen this car.
If you have the interest and the means, you should ceratinly talk to Alex to get the details for yourself...
