'. . . This particular car was delivered new in Germany, and was subsequently imported to the United States. According to the authoritative survey of the Carrera RS written by Thomas Gruber and Georg Konradsheim, this is a matching numbers car and was originally finished in the color it wears today, Grand Prix White with red accents. It has had much restorative work performed, including a full engine rebuild and a thorough cosmetic refurbishment since it arrived in the US. The documentation for this work is included. Various other odds and ends were also renewed, including the tires, starter, various switches, and body seals. All of this work was performed within the last two and a half years and 1500 kilometers, and the total for all included receipts is $38,271.16.

Consequently, the car is excellent, both mechanically and cosmetically. The exterior presents beautifully, and is extremely difficult to fault, with only one noticeable chip anywhere, which is on the edge of the trunk lid. The paint is otherwise superb in both condition and quality. The glazing is excellent, and all lights and lenses are in like-new condition. The chrome trims around the windows show only the slightest signs of wear, and the remainder of the chrome shows none at all. The wheels and tires are in superb shape, with only minor chipping to the right rear wheel`s red paint. The other wheels are nearly faultless.

The interior presents as well as the exterior. The carpets, upholstery, headliner, dash etc. are all in excellent condition. The seats are the correct Touring sport seats and show no wear. The steering wheel, including the leather, is in as new condition, and the dashboard is free from warping, cracking, and discoloration. The clock and all other gauges work correctly, and the general feel of the interior is extremely fresh and tidy. The trunk is correct and very clean, with all carpeting present and in excellent shape. The space-saver tire is present, as is the tool roll.

The engine compartment is equally nice, and shows much evidence of recent work. It is well detailed, very clean, and very attractive, both above and below. Close scrutiny reveals that all cylinders are completely dry and extremely clean, reflecting the low mileage since the complete rebuild. Further inspection of the underside reveals stainless steel heat exchangers and muffler, as well as Bilstein shock absorbers. The remainder of the underside is in good unrestored condition with wear that is consistent with the age and mileage of the car.

The driving experience is truly what these cars are about, and this car does not disappoint. Even among Carrera RS`s, this is an exceedingly fine example to drive. The motor sounds good and makes excellent power, with a noticeable increase in urgency as the revs increase. The suspension is compliant without feeling soft, and the communication through the steering and the seat of one`s pants reminds occupants why this car is such a legend. The fitment of modern rubber helps provide enough grip to confidently explore the remarkable chassis, and indeed, the handling is excellent, with the slightest bit of understeer dialed in for safety. The car does not pull to either side, even when braking, and the brakes are both reassuring and very capable . . .

I was just in Tokyo and looked at this car. I'm really interested in getting to the bottom of this story. Would it be possible to see the ebay ad you have a record of? Also, I'm confused by your comment "The 0030021 number corresponds to being a full 1973 replacement shell rather than just a repair". What does this mean? The body number stamped in the dash behind the ashtray is 0030021. I have a photo if you're interested. The paint around the chassis number is now all sanded off. You can see where the X'd out portion has been ground off and filled in. I looked at it from underneath with a scope and you can still see the X marks.

The first '0' is for a replacement chassis, the second '0' is for a coupe', the '3' is for 1973, and the remaining XXXX is for the sequential chassis. So this is the 21st replacement coupe in the '73 model year.

I was looking for the posts on that car and the "RSR" that were for sale at Ceasar trading to see what was posted . it was back on page 68 here

i posted the old and new photos of the chassis stamping. As Brian says that is a replacement shell which is what i posted at the time.

I do have a copy of the words of the ebay listing but dont recall the date of it

    here it is
Description from E Bay listing: It is very rare to find !!! This is a very good original condition of 73, Carrera RS with less than #100 of vin number. #000068. It is hand made from Porsche factory ! #9113600068, Engine #6630059, Transmission #7830070 (The only number could read 0070 by some road scratch) The reserve price is includes shipping cost . Res is $68000 USD. The car had engine complete O/H 5years ago and only run about 500Km (310 Miles) after that. The body and interior had never been restor before. but it is good original condition for 30 years old. The car had collision back on 1973 and replaced the parts that section shows vin number. The parts was order to Porsche Factory and fixed by professional who knows Porsche very well. (Used factory parts only to fix it) The parts came with vin number xxxxxxx also 9113600068. The other number could read inside of xxxxxxx section and it said 0030021. The odd shows 35000km but not sure that.

So the replacement shell means that the whole shell has been replaced by a "spare part" called a "body in white" presumably because the original car was wrecked beyond economic repair at the time and these things were not important in 1973. This is like getting a blank case replacement for an engine but spare bodies always had a serial number as has been posted. The old vin number has been stamped into the new shell in the trunk area and unfortunately the spare shell vin has been obliterated from there rather than being shown by itself (my understanding of what should have happened) or left in conjunction with the restamped old vin number to show transparency
at least the replacement shell number is intact on the dashboard stamping. If it was me i would be looking for evidence of the rebodying of the car. It appears that the engine number and transmission number (as currently stamped on both of them) are the matching ones for 0068 so that could provide comfort on the story so long as they have not been tampered with.

my records of when it was first advertised by Ceasar (not sure about now) is that they said
"Matching number, chassis 9113600068 and engine 6630059.
Original delivery colour is Grand Prix White.
no accident but had paint repeir history.
Imported as new car to Japan. Official Dealer car.
    Original sear and Steering wheel.
CearEngine was overhauled with good condition."

which is clearly incorrect (may be true since it was fully rebuilt with a new shell though )

    i hope that this helps

I'm helping a friend's widow sell the 1973 RS below. It's currently sitting at Porsche of Colorado Springs. I've gone over the car in detail and it is an amazing restoration. Timing isn't right for me, but I'd like to see it find a good home where I can come knocking in the future.

    1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS

    Chasis Number: 911 360 1315
    Engine Number: 663 1286
    Gearbox Number: 831 292
    Colour No.: 626212 (Light Yellow)
Interiour: Black Leatherette (center seat part out of vinyl corduroy)
    Option: M440 M472 (luxurious version)

This prestigious automobile was delivered to a German customer in June 1973. The RS then made it's way to the U.S., ultimately landing in a private collection in Colorado, where it has remained for 30+ years. The RS underwent a complete rotisserie restoration, performed by renowned Porsche specialist Steve Rowe. The RS has been driven less than 50 miles since the restoration was complete and is offered for the first time in over 30 years. There are many more detailed photos available.

    Price: $850,000

i see that the yellow one is <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:OfficeDocumentSettings> <o:AllowPNG/> </o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </xml><![endif]-->9113600227 although I am surprised at how (poorly) it is presented here. I cant work out what the other two are. Do you have any numbers? I tried towork out what the green one was from my records but i couldn't find any car that ticked all the boxes listed (and no other options)
