Artcurial sale during the Mans Classic is usually successfull. But this year - brexit, market, economy? - the results was very bad, with a lot of cars unsold.

A 2.7 RS was hammered at 476'800 € (about 528'000 $) with taxes. Looks cheap to me

It looks cheap enough, but there's rust under the paint, everywhere there's a detail shot.

    '. . . French registration
    Chassis # 911 360 1366
    Engine # 6631334

    - Iconic model
    - Very well maintained
    - Touring, rallying and track car

1973 was a historic year for Porsche. A new 911 had a prestigious name, and immediately had great success with the sporting clientele: the Carrera RS. "Carrera" in memory of the "Carrera Americana", during which Porsche achieved great performances in the hands of Huschke von Hanstein /Kling and Hermann /Juhan and RS standing for "Renn-Sport". The combination of power (210bhp DIN) and a lightweight body gave the Carrera RS '73 performance that normally aspirated 911 had to wait another 16 years before being able to match. The engine of the Carrera RS could rev up to 7300rpm without causing damage, and was more flexible than the 911 S.

Delivered new in Italy the car on offer was in the hands of a French collector from 2000 to 2010. It was always carefully maintained by the Porsche dealer in Toulouse and by the Peyraud garage in Verfeil. The last service was on October 31, 2008 at 81,184 km, and the car has hardly been used since. It has participated in numerous regularity rallies since 2000 (Targa Florio, Tour d'Espagne, Trophee de Corse, Coupe des Alpes, etc). The engine is very flexible and powerful. The oil pressure is excellent (4 kg when hot, and at idle) and the transmission is very precise and silent. The interior, in good condition, is equipped with adjustable Recarro seats in fabric and vinyl, door panels in their "light" version, a "Tripmaster" and a Becker Mexico radio. A battery master switch is connected to two 12-volt batteries parallel mounted at the front. A modern alarm was installed. Since 2010, the engine was rebuilt at Marc de Siebenthal, in Switzerland (see invoice €17.000) and an important invoice folder comes with the car, plus a FIVA passport, and an owner's manual. It is equipped with the highly desirable optional electric sunroof. This is an opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable Porsches. It offers a wide range of possible usage: normal road use, track and competition while being a safe investment. - See more at: https://www.artcurial.com/fr/asp/ful....axA4FjVF.dpuf . . .

Noticed RSH #1429 coming up for sale. Estimate: $1,300,000 - $1,500,000

Some immediate observations regarding a few details:

According to my 12 page factory Carrera RS ordering procedure and specification document from 1973 the specification for Carrera RS model 911 744 (interestingly not referred to as RSH in this period document) the base model before the list of specific changes required to make either M471 or M472 conversion includes:

forged alloy front 6 15 with 165 15 tubeless tyres,
    7 15 rears with 185/70 tyres,
    no aluminium door sills,
    no side window sill trim,
no torsion bar access covers. (Note no covers in period rally photo).

This example seems to be different to that?

Source is early 1973 document used to advise dealers how to fill in various columns of the Carrera RS order card and where required provide other information in an accompanying letter: image.jpg

Maybe being a third series RS with quite a late chassis number this particular RSH spec varied?

Assume original wheels were changed for rallying purposes early on as shown in period picture?

Also wonder if it was originally constructed using light thinner gauge panels because stocks of these reputedly ran out hundreds in series well before this example would have been assembled?

Interesting car. Not mine, no affiliation.

    Ch_bastler.

Yes they are all 911 744. Never said otherwise?

    My main points were:

    1) the designation in the paperwork for the model 911 744 according to the factory original ordering procedure / spec documents from back in 1973 when the model was actually available to order / configure as limited edition available in selected geographies does not refer to RS "homologation" as a name for what might be termed the "base RS variant". The terminology for the "base variant" to which the three conversion orders were available -- as pictured in the extract from that document.

    2) compared to detailed specification the "base RS variant" as listed in that particular factory order procedure/ spec document, the RS (H) car that is for sale in auction has some detailed differences. Examples of which I highlighted.

Possibly those differences are due to this particular example being a relatively late (third series) example of a 911 744 Carrera RS model ....rather than one of the earlier 500/1000 sent to Stuttgart scales. Therefore presumably the example listed was not: assembled with the thin gauge panels - weighed / certified - then reworked to meet specifics of relevant customer's conversion order/other options ...like all those earlier ones?

(Doug. Apologies for overlooking your earlier post and other links on this car. )
