    Odometer Works Intermittently

I seem to have a theme at the moment. The speedmeter stopped working in my '73 S a while back and the trip odometer had been working intermittently. I installed a new speedometer cable today after fiinding that the old one was broken at the transmission. Now the speedometer works fine -- and the trip odometer still works intermittently. So it looks like I had two problems.

I remember reading something somewhere about how plastic gears in the speedometer fail which causes the trip odometer to fail. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need to send it out to Palo Alto or Hollywood?

    Thanks for your help.

    Replying to my own post....

This has been discussed extensively at Pelican. Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.
