Red (Valet) and Black (Master) Keys

My car is a very late '73, and I wanted to have some new keys made. So I bought new original blanks from Performance Products. Those have "DOM" stamped at the top and "PORSCHE" stamped at the bottom. When I looked closely at the keys I got when I bought the car, I noticed that the red, valet one does not have "DOM" stamped at the top. It does have "PORSCHE" stamped at the bottom. The black key had both stamps.

My question is this: did the red and black keys originally delivered with the cars have "DOM" at the top and "PORSCHE" at the bottom, or just "PORSCHE" at the bottom? Would owners with the original keys have a look?

    Thanks!

Just dug out my original key pouch. No stampings other than "porsche" on either the red or the black keys. "DOM" is maybe a way to signify that this is a key made from a blank? Just a guess.

DOM is/was the manufacturer of keys, door handles, and glove box locks.

    keys cut from code

on a related note. i found a place called keys 4 classics

    http://www.keys4classics.com/

that can determine your key code from a digital picture of your key that you email to them. they then cut you new keys from the code (as opposed to getting copies made of your worn keys)

i cant remember the exact price but i think it was around $40 US for 2 keys for my car. the keys are labeled "silca made in italy" and have a square black plastic head on them.

the ones i had made work great and the service was quite quick.

    Potentially dumb question...

I have my old key. I have a new blank. Can I go to any key place to have the blank ground as a match to my original? Or, do I need to go to someplace special?

This is what I know... the blanks (red and black) from Porsche are steel and locals (hardware stores) can't cut the keys. Most keys are brass or soft metal alloy. I was told that the dealership is the only place to cut them. So I went to Orlando Porsche and they said they could not cut it but a local locksmith could. At this point I have decided to pull one of the door locks and use it as a templet since my key looks like a worn out toothpick and I am going to soooo much trouble to have these $10 keys (ebay) cut anyhow.
What is the saying...I never did mind the little things.

My local dealer cut my AL '79 SC black and red DOM keys for free a few years ago.
