    Wink 2.2 engine sticker

    A colour issue....

As you know Porsche is issuing some reproduction stickers of the 2.2 engine (applied on the back window) and the numbers are printed in RED.

The old original stickers however, are today pale yellow and in rare instances orange.

    Several explanations have been offered:

    Engine type
Some people say that the colour depended on the engine (S,E, T) type, but this is unlikely as no one has ever seen a green version.

    Year 69 or 70
It depended on production year of the 2.2, first yellow was yellow, second red. This has never been proven or confirmed.

    Faded colours
Originally they were all red but have faded over time and with the sunlight became orange and then pale yellow. Most likely!

However, if you look at the sticker on the McQueen 911 in Le Mans, the numbers are pale yellow, and not red.....

    Any explanations?

Juan, I've seen them, too. One of the Portland guys had one this year at the Treffen and he said he bought from an RGrupper in Monterey, but I have no idea if the guy came this year or if he was selling them. I most certainly didn't see them for sale or I'd have bought some.

    Trade anyone?

I have a 2.0 that I would trade for a 2.2, of course I would prefer the orange or yellow.

    Thanks
