    Tranny # Question

I've got a spare 5-speed tranny with what appears to be part #911.301.101.0R on it. This number doesn't jive completely with the PET. Anyone able to shed a tad of light on this?

That looks like a casting number for the case, Paul. It won't tell you much about the assembled tranny, although starting with a 911 number tells you it is later, as the early ones would be 901. Is it a mag case or aluminum? Is there a type/serial number on the bottom or has it been ground off?

Maybe there is a typo there. Could it be 911.301.010.0 (replacement)?

No typo there....it's that R that baffles me. The retarded side of the brain is wondering if that means anything special.

    Casting numbers

Hello: I believe you are looking at the casting number on the transmission. It is not the part number. Porsche like other companies has castings made for them and when a change is done they add numbers or letters. Hope this helps. The transmission number is on the bottom of the tranny and may be ground off from the car bottoming or the tranny being dragged across the floor too many times. Thanks Eric

OK, we know we are looking at the casting PN. The biggest discrepancy is the .101 vs .010 as shown in PET. The R, if that is in fact what it says, is incidental, IMHO.

I'm not an expert on tranny casings, just trying to help.

    Casting numbers.

Hello: Maybe I did'nt say it clearly. Those are casting numbers not part numbers so they will not be on the PET. You may also like to know that PET does not have all the parts that the old parts books have or the fisch does. Thanks Eric

Thanks for the headsup. Just wanting to know clearly what I'm looking at before the project begins.
