1969T on ebay .... Buyer Beware?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4642785706

This is the third time this car has been on the market in the past year. First 2 sales were on Pelican.

Note the current ebay ad & linked photo page does not bring up the rust issue evident when it was first for sale.

First time it was up for sale in the last year:
    http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...9&pagenumber=2

This is the second time the car was for sale in the past year w/ 'broken timiing chain' :
    http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...highlight=911t
Note the seller at that time did not reveal the rust issue until pushed (well, until someone else posted a photo of it!!!)

I guess its possible the current owner has addressed the rust, but find it unlikely given he has only owned it 3 months or so.

A true test of integrity will probably be to ask about rust & see what the reply is

    From the ad:

And now, the subject of greatest importance to anyone buying an early 911 Porsche - RUST!

Please read this first! It is a link to an article on how to inspect an early 911 for rust:

    http://www.911t.org/articles/rust/rust%20inspection.htm

Rust - that terrible word! I love early Porsches. Therefore - I hate rust! Mechanical items can always be repaired or replaced. Parts are available for the engine, transmission, etc. All that is needed is time and money. But rust repair is a thankless task and a too rusty car is too far gone. With early 911's, it is ALWAYS best to worry most about rust and make it your first priority when considering a car for purchase. Leave the rest to LAST. Please examine closely the following pictures of the bottom of the car and inside the fenders. If you don't see the view you want to see send me an email and I'll add it to this page.

Maybe interested parties should E-mail the seller?

Seems if you read the post on Pelican, the owner who experienced the broken chain (one) would like to have the car back. Alas, he bought another and I'm sure he is silently kicking himself for selling the car so quickly.

What is the real purpose of these beware posts? Can't we all take care of oursevles well enough? Sometimes I yearn for the pre Internet days. I'm far better off knowledge wise with the Internet. But now, we have become a society of know-it-alls. I'm guilty as hell.

    Quack!

And how about that ducktail. Does it have one or not?

Guess it depends on which picture you look at.....

I love where he says, "A few small paint chips on gas lid area from gas pump handle." Well, duh? Pull the car up with the filler cap next to the pump, not opposite it and you could probably avoid this...

Could've happened in New Jersey, where I know from experience that pump jockeys are often careless with the nozzle (there's a chip on the side of my daily driver, just above the fuel filler door). Their new governor had proposed to make self-serve available, allegedly in an effort to curb the march of gas prices, but New Jerseyans for a variety of reasons are vehemently against it and the proposal will likely die if it hasn't already.
