Loctite 574 didn't work what now?

A couple of the studs which hold on the chainbox cover will not tighten enough to allow me to tighten the nuts. I tried Loctite 574 but it didn't work. Is there something else that might work or do I need to buy new studs?

    Don:

    # 574 is a sealing compound used specifically on flat surfaces,...

If the studs are rotating enough to prevent the nuts from snugging up, then deal with that by either repairing the stripped/damaged threads or in a pinch, anchoring them with Locktite # 270 which is a high-strength stud & bearing mount. The threaded hole and stud MUST be scrupulously clean.

You must have the studs fully seated as I suspect you are trying to tighten on the unthreaded portion. There are tools for installing studs but utilizing 2 nuts by jamming one against the other works too.

Loctite should "nail" them in IF you don't have stripped threads in the case itself. That's another ball game.

There is a nice chart that lists applications.

262 or 272 look to be the product.

    Good luck,

    Stripped stud holes?

Hello: I'm a little unsure of your problem. Are the holes that the studs go into stripped? If so you will have to Time sert them to restore the threads. You can also get oversize studs on one end from Volkswagon. They are 7mm and 6mm on the other end. If the threads are bad on the studs then just replace them. Hope this helps. Thanks Eric
