    Tires for Historic racing

Hello: I think we need more info. If it is for racing today then it will be certain tires that are legal for the class you race in. If you are looking for tires that were on old 911 race cars then the Goodyear blue streak was the hot tire back then and is even made today in certain sizes. You can check with the racing group that you will be running with such as SVRA, HSR,CVAR,VARAC, etc. They can also tell you what width of rims they allow. Most of the historic 911 cars use DOT street race tires such as Kumho,Avon, Toyo etc. They also allow 50 series tires now. Rim size is usually what will fit under the fender lip with no flaring or 7x15. Like I said above check your local rules. Thanks Eric

I'm just intrested in what was used in the period for racing/sport driving, not for todays sanctioned racing, for shows...and driving around.

Hello: Buy some Goodyear blue streaks. They are very soft compound but still have the tread pattern from the 60's. These are race tires and are not radials and are not street legal. They also used Dunlops as well as Firestones. There are places that sell old style tires for show cars. What they do is buy the old molds from the tire companies and make new tires. Good luck with your project it sounds interesting. Thanks Eric

Dunlop sells a tire that has the pattern from the 60's but w/ a modern compound. Richard
