    Original tires on 1971 911

Can someone post what tire brands were used as OEM on a 1971 911? And what are current available tires/brands that might satisfy a concours judge?

Likely either Michellin XWX or Pirelli Cinturatos size 185/70VR15, both are still available but expensive.

Look at Vredestein tires. Same size, very similar design, great performance and 4 tires for the price of one Michelin.

My euro delivery 70S came with those Dunlop SP Sport Supers, all 5 of them. Still have the tire mounted on the spare wheel. Interesting side note is that they were mounted with tubes. Oh, I bought the car in '77, I am assuming they were the OE delivered tires.

Not to hijack this thread, but what would be the best all around performance tire for the same year S?

Do the tires mentioned above apply to 14" wheels as well? My 1971 E with comfort package is currently being restored and I will also be looking for OE tires for my 14" Fuchs. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Check out your manual. The Owner's manual for my '67 and '70 both depict the "dog bone" Dunlop tire. They are shown both on the car and in the spare well. That tire was one of only a few VR rated tires in the day. My '70 still has one on the spare wheel (185 70 VR15).
