Thread: Cibie question, fog or driving light?

Cibie question, fog or driving light?

The pair of Cibie lights I have bought you can see in the picture. Did these lights come in different versions for different purposes, in these exact buckets? Like fog or driving lights? (I now there where a lot of different Cibie models)

    Thanks again

I have only seen or heard of these as driving lights.

    Hi John,

I am not an expert on these but going by the pattern of the lense I would say that these have a driving light pattern. The Marchall's (there are some pictures here on this board) have a different pattern which resembles more of a foglight pattern. By the way I have been told (by a Citroen expert) that the Marchall's (foglight pattern) do fit the Cibie buckets but were never sold in that combination.

The yellow lens come off. It is held in place with three tabs that are bent over, remove the bulb to access.

Thanks a lot guys, it seems then that what I have bought are the "correct" Cibie driving lights. I am looking forward to have them painted and installed on my car. I hope it wont conflict with the originality of my car, but I like the look of them on a early Porsche from pictures I have seen on this board !

In classic Porsche form, there is not a lot of formal documentation in this area. One must then interpret the available data and make a best guess. Looking at the rally photos, all varieties of lights were used in the early days. The Cibie Pallas was but one type. As best I can surmise, rally preparers latched onto this style as it fit nicely on the 911 hood. Cibie picked up on this and started to advertise them as such. The Cibie Pallas appears to have been designed, though, for the Citroen Pallas. The nifty thing about them is that the arrangment of the screws that hold the reflector base allow mounting such that the lamp can be set up at the angle required for the Citroen as well as the verticle arrangement logical for the 911. That's what I believe at this point, anyway.
