    1973 Ducktail

I'm looking at buiyng a 40,000 original miles, 73 911T Coupe from the second owner. The current owner states that the ducktail on the car was special ordered from the factory. Was that possible back then? It's Sepia Brown with Tan leather interior. Is brown back in style or do I have to wait another 20 years?

Possbile, yes, but unlikely. It might have been dealer insatlled. Best way to tell is to look at the ducktail's underside. That will tell if it is real or not.

    Michael,

Kenik is right, it was most likely not factory ordered to the car in '73 ...

However, if it is indeed real, it could have been dealer ordered through the factory starting in about '74 on through the early '80's ...

I have a Stoddard ad somewhere from the late '70's that has factory '73 duck tails with the factory part # (901.512.001.61) for about $100.00.

Also, most know of at least 15 factory duck tails that came over with the IROC cars in late '73 that were changed out to 'big tails' before the first race...

We should ask Harvey Weidman about those .... He was one of the guys that changed'm out back then.... is THAT cool or what...

    ... and so it goes,

I've seen a picture of the car he's refering too and it did look like a factory unit to me which is rare but not impossible. The car looked very original and was in excellent shape judging from the pictures. If I recall it was priced right.

Believe it or not Sepia is in style again as we type. The Heineken commecial that has the 71' Sepia T had it for a reason. They could have gotten any color they wanted but they chose Sepia. This is according to the owner of the car.

Beige ,neutrals and browns are in vogue again.

    Not impressed

Went with check book in hand and walked away. How could a 40,000 mile car be so sketchy. The trunk area revealed some sloppy bodywork. The gap between the front fenders and the cowl were filled in. Couldn't figure out the interior. The dash was okay but the carpets were shot. Next!

Well, on a side note. I received a kardex recently on a car I owned not too long ago (kardex took a while), and to my surprise it said rear spoiler on it. Well, I thought it was probably wrong, but I called up Barbara at the Kardex division and she confirmed the option number and "heck" spoiler.... As you can probably surmise it wasn't on the car when I got it, and there was zero evidence of any bodywork in the rear, and the rear deck fit perfectly....
