    Seeking Your 911S Project

I am interested in purchasing an early 911S project car for restoration. Any condition except complete rust bucket. Seeking for own interest, but also desire collectible value. Personally prefer coupe over targa, also year 1967 or 1973, but will consider any early S model. Closer to home (Portland, OR) helps also. Hoping to pay between $5k to $15k.

    Thanks,
    Tim
    Portland, OR

    Current:
1972 911S Targa in L.A. - One day it will get home...
    1983 Mazda B2000 P/U - Can't kill it, But I keep trying.
1975 Alfa Spider - Engine's done, But needs time and $$ spent on body and interior
1981 Jag XJ6 - Engine's is in, need to get some time to finish...
1977 VW Bus - Family German Suburban
    1996 Ford Taurus - Wife's

    Previous Porsches:
    1963 356 T6 Coupe
    1979 911SC Targa
    1977 911S Targa

    Thanks,
I think you'd have to get in line around here at that price. An E or a T is more likely...

A non rust bucket S for resto is supposedly $30k plus.
    Cheers,

I expected that others would agree that that would be a bargain for an S...

However, I have been watching the cars for sale here and on e-bay, and for a non-driveable rolling car in need of mechanical and body work, and minimal rust repair, $15k should easily get me there. I am expecting to strip the car down, re-paint, do some interior work and rebuild the engine do some interior work .

Examples that are drivers in need of TLC seem to be in the 20k-35k range.

Please feel free to comment further to help with my 911S market education.
I know of some examples at East coast dealers that supposedly have "minimal rust" that are in that range...

    Thanks,

You could assuredly get something for that price without matching numbers. Maybe even with matching numbers with luck.

I have sold 2 69 911 S coupes one for around 23K that was not a number matching but had a fair amount of resto work done another that was a number matching # car that need a front pan and some other repair for $18,900. They are out there, you have to be patient, lucky and be willing to pull trigger sight unseen (that us where luck comes in).

Yes, the ideal situation is a numbers matching car, but I realize I may have to settle for a different year or a targa to pull that off. Or wait three years for that barn find to present itself.

If its sight unseen, I'm hoping for a good (honest) out of town inspection, if I can't get a modest flight to see a good prospect.

For the curious, I am already getting some private response to the post of cars for sale. Sorry, too early to give out details...

    Thanks for the Responses,

    1972 911 S Targa... DISASSEMBLED FOR PAINT... NO ENGINE...$11,750

I Know of a 1972 911S Targa Without Engine For $11,750... Dissassembled painted and then sitting for 15 Years.. Calif Car Not Rusty

I'd roll the dice on a car w/o an engine, especially if it has the original tranny. Unstamped engine cases come up occasionally which, for a price, would solve the "no engine" problem correctly.
