Gas Filler Flap Concours Detail Questions

I was hoping someone could tell me the how the gas flap door and release was finished as the car came off the production line.

It seems to me that the flap would have been sprayed off the car and then installed so the spring and hinge would be all sprayed over. But what about the release that is inside the fender pocket? Should it be sprayed over too or was it installed after the fender was sprayed?

Any pics of the original finish would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Rob.

Can you comment on the flap release.

I am trying to nail these details when I do my repaint over the next couple of months. Easiest to do it right the first time.

The flap door should be painted body color, as indicated in the photo. The release mechanism is also painted, but there is a black rubber stop that is obviously not painted. The plastic sleeve that the cable goes through is not painted.

I bought a new fender and the gas flap doesn't have a tab for the grounding wire to attach to the filler neck. Any suggestions on how to add one?

I believe it was originally welded on. Either MiG, TiG, or braze weld it. I'd probably TiG it to minimize heat.
