    H1's and "city lights"

Can someone shed some light on the glow lights or city lights in the
H1's. A friend of mine back in the early 90's had (4) four pair of new NOS H1's and they all had city lights. I'm finding out now that that may have been a rare thing or at least a Euro thing. He sold those lights for 150.00 a pair and he's kicking himself now. The glow lights ("city lights") in my mind is what makes them cool.

I have never personally seen any H1's with built-in 'pilot' sidelights (city lights).

    H4's have them though...

They are a little light, right inside the lense on the bottom. They make the light glow. Only on when parking lights are activated.. I believe.

Mike, The H1 on the left in this thread has the city light option. This is the pair I sold. It's hard to see in the top pic but, in the bottom pic you can see the bulb socket.

The front turn signal assembies have differences in some countries. The Euros typically have the clear region next to the horn grill.

H1's are typically known as a Euro headlight assy. So having the "glow light" and extra light in the signal housing seems to me be redundent.

Were the glow lights a short term carry over from the 356 lights or perhaps for a few countries in Europe?

I have a pair of H1s that I need to decide to either remove 1 or add one to make both lamps the same.

that additional parking light or small light in headlamp was a 356 Euro application that might have been in some of the earlier 911 applications

I've seen a lot of H1 headlamps with this option. Does anyone know when it phased out? Daniel Stern may know, I'll email him and post his answer.

Even though this is a thread about H1s, H4s can be easily set up with them as well. The H4s have the bulb socket and connectors already there.
