    S deco strips

I am wondering if the S deco strips inserts are available.

I checked w/ Stoddard and they have:

    901.559.106.52 (65-68) $58.16 ~Out of Stock
    901.559.106.53 (69-73) $45.40 ~In Stock

    Questions.

    1. is the .53 not just a longer version of the .52? Judging by the price I would think it's not?
    2. are there sources for the .52?

    Regards,

    Richard

Yes, I believe they are if it's just out of stock. Stoddard is pretty good at letting you know if its NLA or superceded with another part number. Pelican also sells them (they get it from another Porsche dealer) but it's the same price. I think the .52 and .53 are different, something to do with the cross section shape perhaps. But I would just wait to get the right part or check some other vendors.

BTW, I just had a long discussion about after market S decos on the Pelican board. Apparently the concensus is that the repro rockers are a good fitting replica in fit and finish, but many are having trouble with the bumper decos not fitting and rubbers not the right shape, or falling out. So maybe the repro rocker rubbers (which I'm told fits correctly) may work as well. Good luck Allan

    Hi Allan,

Thank you for your reply. I will look into it and keep the board posted as I progress.

FYI - I got new front and rear decos form EASY, which probably came from Stoddard, and they did not fit the curvature of the bumper. I made a form/template out of wood and beat them in to submission with a BFH and furniture clamps. It was a lot of work but they fit well now.

I just installed the repro-deco strips on my 70E. The side AL trim worked very well, A good piece. The bumper pieces were garbage, they were returned and I just kept my originals.

    Some advice...

The rubber piece that runs btw the AL rocker trim and the body ( little bit of beading ) that comes with the moulding is junk, get the original from stoddard, it fits better and from 5 feet you can see the difference.

The rubber strip that comes with the reproduction moulding is not trimmed on the ends, it should be angled. The original rubber, which I got from stoddard fits the reproduction moulding. I didn't try to cut the reproduction piece, but I'm sure it can be done.

So in short, reproduction AL trim + original rubber bits == good results.
