The old Blaupunkt Franfurt and the Ipod thread

In my attempt to enter the 21st Century, I purchased an Ipod. I still have the old school in me and want to keep my Blaupunkt Frankfurt.

I did a search, everyone seemed to agree to this type plug purchased in New Jersey...

Well, How does this work?? Are the owners who ran the cable to the Ipod from the Frankfurt happy?

    photo of the plug

Am I correct that one end plugs directly to the back of the radio, the other to the Ipod? I see the male goes to the back of the radio. However, the other end looks like a female recepticle also, like the Ipod. What else needs to be purchased, a double male cable?

I did this and it works great. You plug the cable into the DIN jack in the back of the radio, and then use a male to male headphone cable (cam with my connector cable) to plug the ipod in. If something is plugged into the jack the radio automatically swiches over to that input. Thus if you want to listen to the radio, you must be sure to unplug the make headphone jack from the connector cable. Easy!

Sound quality is good (for a 40 year old mono radio design with a paper speaker), but volume level is reduced. IE the ipod cannot play at as loud a volume as the radio.

    Ray,
I have this set-up on my Frankfurt in my 70E. Used it once on a trip to
Taos, NM. Pretty hard in my car to hear anything but the engine at speed.
Its ok for around town, thats about it.

Best audio solution I found for road-trips (Colo. to Sonoma) was an Ipod
and Bose Quiet Comfort headphones. You look like a dork running down the
hwy w/ headphones on but the sound quality was excellent, plus they have a noise suppression feature w/ helps reduce fatigue from external noise.

I have an even better alternate to the Bose I think. Etymotics earphones are an in-the-ear headphone/earplug that give serious audiophile quality sound. They are small and inconspicuous and less expensive than the bose. I've had mine for years and have used them on long road trips and when working in ship enginerooms (my old profession).

    Check them out here: http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er4.aspx

    Highly recommended.

OR...you can use an amplifier with line level inputs and a modern speaker to get some more decibels from the stereo.

Or you can cut holes in the door/map pockets and add speakers and take the rear seats out and put in a "system" with dual subs with extra speakers in the rear dash that will make your car look pimp.
