    Off Topic, But Incredible Story

OK, this is way off topic. But it's too interesting of a story to post in that section. The all-time eBay bargain.

    Check this out:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4649333573

    and then this:

Who says there are no bargains on eBay?

    Well,
All I can say is that this is a nice story, and really makes EBay seem like there is a goldmine lurking behind every vinrtage EBay sportscar auction...
It is worth considering bearing in mind however that the story really begins here. Not ends.
Trying to restore that car to its previous Ferrar glory is not going to be cheap , and is going to require someone with an awful lot of money, and alot of ballls. Of course, I realize that there is a alot of money to be worked with if the end product canb fetch over $2 million.
However, restoring that car with period correct Ferrari parts is going to require BIG$$$$, assuming of course that the resto work is done correctly. Then, it can always be argued by more than a few that the car is very unoriginal.
Imagine shelling out hundreds of thousands to restore this car, and then having the market shun you for lack of originality...We have seen it happen here with early 911S's, by people restoring their cars expecting to get big $$$, only to find that many of us are looking for original examples. Granted, we are not quite playing in the Millions - yet...

Amazing! It's still worth $$$ for it's historical value, just the way it is.

the buyer Tom Shaughnessy is a Ferrari collector / parts seller ,

If anyone can find the parts its him

I bet he was hoping no one else figured it out , I wonder what his high bid was going to be ?
I saw the auction and wondered why it had gone so high, now I know

    Value

Don't underestimate the value of a authentic VIN and chassis bits and pieces. It will cost gobs of $$$ to "restore", but it will be worth multiple gobs when it's done. I toured Symbolic Motors shops in San Diego a few weeks ago and the work they do on these highly valued rare cars with histories is phenomenal. There was one vintage Ferrari there in their Fabrication Shop that they were basically remanufacturing from the chassis up.

Historic vintage Ferrari collectors breathe rarified air. I suspect that when this car is done it will sell for closer to $5M than $3M.

What would it cost to fabricate an entire Ferrari body and then source all the mechanicals for that car? $500,000? $750,000? More?

The resto of that car will cost a confortable $1M, I'd bet. Still a deal for a $2.5M car.
