Where to get air plugs for a 75 engine??

    Here's a quicky,

A friend has a 75 engine and needs the air injection ports plugged.

Anybody know what size or where to get the plugs?

    Thanks in advance,

    Eric

They can be plugged with any standard 10x1.0 plugs from your local Metric Hardware supplier. Here's one good resource thread from Pelican:

    Air injection plugs.

Hello: You can use the drain plug from a 928 automatic transmission. You will need six of them. Also buy the crush washer as well. Hope this helps. Thanks Eric

Do '68 heads take the same size plugs? My '68N has the air injection pipes still connected to the heads, but their ends pinched off. I am nearing the replacement of my heat exchangers w/ SSIs and would like to take care of this at the same time.

You definitely want to ditch the AIR pump. These cars would run hot as the hinges of hell. Good sources for plugs already posted. SSI's are the best money you can spend.

    Good luck,

The air pump has been gone eons now. However, the PO did not remove the pipes and injectors. The injectors were left in the heads and the pipes were pinched off. Got everything I need except for the plugs. I even have the Stomski stud removal set up on stand by.

Here's what an old engine I sold had in the injector ports.

For any poor soul that removes the air injection stuff, know this:
the threads are M12x1.0 and appear to be a one year only size for US '68 heads. Later years use the ubiquitous M10x1.0 thread size.

M12x1.0 is a freak size and extremely difficult to find. I found a specialty metric shop in town that had a batch specially made some years ago (in 30mm length). I will have to cut them down to size and then use some metric shims from McMaster since the threads do not extend all the way down to the base of the head.

My personal nightmare is almost over...
