Thread: Seat Belts?

    Seat Belts?

The time has come to replace my original but very tired seat belts in my '69S. I kind of like the non-retractable belts. Feels very racy to be firmly strapped in. My girlfriend, on the other hand finds them seriously uncomfortable. Can't say I blame her. What are my options? The only thing I've found in the way of simple three point belts are the non-retractable ones offered in the Mid America Motorworks catalogue. I've got original Recaro Sport seats and the factory roll bar. Will that complicate matters? I know I'll have to pull the roll bar to remove the current belts.

    Thanks for any info.

Check out www.peparts.com, or call 800-593-8787. I have no affiliation, nor have I ever used them, but they offer OEM Repa brand components and upgrades. They are an advertiser in Excellence magazine and may be able to help you.

    Good luck. Cheers.

    Another belt option

You may want to take a look at Andover Restraints @ www.andoauto.com.

They produce a wide range of belts, both retractable and non-retractable. I believe they make a "Classic" blet very similar to others, but for less money. Always be sure that whatever belt you buy meets safety standards.

Or...a slightly different, but related question.

Does anyone re-web seat belts? All the metal parts are in good shape, but I wonder if I should replace the webbing now that it's getting close to 40 years old.

Do you know anyone with a grown baby (kids)? To secure baby seats, you can purchase a seat belt lock so the belt as a finite length - in effect a fixed length, non-retracting seat belt.

Install new/good condition retractable seat belt assemblies on the front seats, then use the safety seat buckle on your side for that retro feeling you prefer.

I found the PEPARTS website. Their stuff looks solid. I haven't been able to get them on the phone yet. I'd like to know whether or not my factory roll bar will be in the way of where the retractor mounts.

The Andover Resraints seem to be the ones available in the Mid America Motorworks catalogue. (Cheaper in the MAM catalogue) They say on the site that the lap and shoulder belts are independantly adjustable. It's hard to tell from the photo how they actually work. The beauty of my original belts is that you can tighten up the lap and shoulder seperately.

Sherwood, that sounds like a cool idea. I'll look into that.

    Thanks guys.

My belts came from peparts. You can check for clearance on the retractors by feeling where the bolts go. Reach up in your rear wheel well, there is a short bolt in the retractor's bolt hole, take that out, then you can push on the panel and see where the retractor goes. it's maybe 3x3x4 inches...

The seat belt question continues. I finally reached PEP. They didn't have belts to replace what I have in my '69 which are non-retractable with a shoulder belt which ends/mounts at the B pillar. They have an earlier type which mounts farther back and bellow the rear side window. Trampas at PEP suggested trying SSnake-Oyl Products in Texas.

They restore/rebuild/reweb old belts. Has anyone dealt with them before?

    Thanks again for the info.

I have the retractable type from PEP, that mount bellow the rear side window, in my 68 it was 10 minutes of work time and they work very well. Also it is 100% reversible in another 10 minutes, with no damage to anything. I am very happy with them. If you want pictures, let me know

    Hi Henry

Pictures would be great. I prefer the non-retractable type but I may have to use the retractable type on the passenger side to accomodate my girlfriend.

    Thanks.
