    Appropriate Application of Deep 6's????

I'm in the process of restoring a 72 S and have a set of deep 6's available to me. I was wondering if they are correct for the 72 S, or should I leave the original wheels on the car? TIA.

And out of curiosity, what cars originally came with deep 6's?

If you are doing a concours restoration deep 6's are not correct for a '72 911. Flat 6's are correct. Deep 6's were used 1969-1971. However, the offset is the same for both deep 6's and flat 6's...so they will look and work fine on your '72S. So my two cents is to use the deep 6's if you like the deep 6 look. But if you are into the concours scene then you'll want to use flat 6's...

Porsche actually started using the flat 6 in March of 71' so the late 71' cars are correct with flat Fuchs as well.

Both are good looking wheels. As much as I love the look of the deep 6 the flat 6 still looks better to me on a 72'/73' car. Stock original is still my favorite look.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

Sell the deep sixes to someone who needs them. The difference you make after selling those and buying a set of flat sixes will pay for a full restoration of the flat wheels!

I have a restored set of flat 6's for sale, they have a different color/finish where the black paint usually goes, but that can be corrected with correct paint (easily done). You can be into these wheels for less than what you can sell your deep 6's for. These were the wheels that were on my 72S, I swapped back to the original wheels that came onto my car. Note that these wheels have the correct 3 clip centercaps (new) on them. The wheels are quite literally flawless in finish.
