    68 Sporto

I am considering a 1968 Sporto. The vin number is 11830317. At the Elferhelfer site I am not able to confirm what the seller clims, that this is a sporto and not a regular US 68. Can you help me with this? The car has tan interior in very nice condition and aubergine paint, no rust.

The price is 13500$, as I have no experience with swb cars is this an ok price?

Is there an easy way to confirm that the engine is original to the VIN?

    From the VIN check:

Specs on this 911 are as such:
    Built in 1968
    coupe, US-version
    Porsche body
    Thanks for checking the VINtage.

    Thanks
    John

It was imported into Scandinavia(Norway, Sweden, Denmark) in the early eightys. I will let you know if you are still interested, I guess the transportation will be a challenge for you.

    Thanks

    Hi John,
Car looks generally nice, and the price seems reasonable - although I would believe that the sporto option would detract from value rather than add to it.
I am not a fan of the tape used to hold the shifter knob. Hopefully that's an easy fix.
The headlights seem like US spec, since they are not the early sealed beams which would have been required in Germany and probably the rest of Europe.
Lastly, aubergine color was not available back in 1968. It is most likely burgundy, which is more brown than purple.
Look long and hard for the rust bug before buying. But I guess I don't need to tell you that since you already own one of the nicest looking viper green 73S's on the board!

P.S. The Peter Morgan book states that the 905 (sporto tranny) was first made available in Aug 1967. That would make it right in time for the 1968 model year.....

Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions.

I have mailed the owner about the engine number and hopefully I will get it from him so that I can verify the matching numbers claim. I will keep you informed.

    Thanks

John, it looks like a very nice car, and if it's as nice as it looks (and rust free), the price seems fair, eve if it's a sporto. From the pictures, it's clear that at least now it's a sporto, I guess your question is if it came form the factory that way, and the engine numbers will tell you that.

But even without the numbers, I doubt anyone would go through the trouble of retrofitting a sporto (but I might be wrong)

    Good luck

Boy, if someone were able to build a hot rodded "Sportomatic" transmission with a good "stall" speed (like 1,800-2,000 rpms) I'd get into drag racing.
Build it strong and put something behind it with some horsepower. Yeeehaaah!

    Hi

The engine number looks correct for the year and beeing a sporto:

    3380080

My boss (wife) told me yesterday NO MORE CARS, so if anyone at the boards are interested in the car this is the contact details:

    Jorgens email address: falconab@bredband.net

    Ad: http://www.blocket.se/view/8930145.htm

With some negotiations the price should be possible to get down to 13-14000$

    Best John
