Documentation of production #'s by color

I'm trying to determine production numbers by color that match my 1972 911 coupe.

Has anyone out there been successful in trying to do this with their cars? I would think this type of documentation would exist somewhere within any or all of the early Porsche Registries

I'm reaching out to anyone that may be of help.

    Thanks in advance.

There is no documentation of this that I know of for '72. The only model that has this is the '73 Carrera. It is located in the 'Carrera RS' book.

I think the PCA could do this pretty easily with the data base they have from the Factory that they use to produce the Certificate of Authencity documents. I know I would do it if I had control of it.

Only thing I ever saw about production numbers by color was stated by Porsche in a 1967 issue of Christophorous. It stated color by percentage of 911/912's for 1966.
I posted this once on the SReg, perhaps you can do a search and find it. The bottom line was that light ivory was by far the biggest seller in 1966 at around 25%, Next came red, green, blue and sepia ...

Porsche could easily publish these numbers but has chosen no to. It's a bummer.

Of course it is available. It isn't available in readily consumable form, but they could get it with some investment. Cataloging this data would require going through every kardex and documenting every car, which would necessitate hiring some contract data entry personnel to do the grunt work. Once complete and with every kardex cataloged into a database, these kinds of questions would be one DB query away.

Don't mistake "readily available" with "available" with some due diligence. They just don't want to do it and it makes sense when you ask a simple question: Why would someone pay $110 for a COA if they could get most of the valuable information for free from published numbers? Let's be honest with ourselves. The only value that these numbers have is in published form. Porsche may never go to the trouble because they can't monetize the data and thus justify a return on the investment it would take to catalog the data. They aren't the most profitable carmaker for no reason.

Not available as in if you call and ask for it they don't have it. I suppose I could fly over there and barge into the document room, photo copy everything, compile it and put it on the internet but I have a feeling they might not like me to do that.

Your right. They have it, they just won't release it for an individual requests. It would be nice for the Registry to work directly with the Factory's historical preservation interests. There's no question the information is at their fingertips. It would be nice for them to share this information to better support the knowledge base for the early 911 Registries, T E and S.
