    Tool Kit Bag 66-73

    Hi there !

i have a discussion over here in Europe with some friends about a correct period tool kit bag for a 911 from 1966 until 1973.
According to my documents like Peter Morgans "Original Porsche 911" (page 21), B.Johnsons "911/912 restorers guide.." (page 44/45) and period roadtests (autocar and ams) the tool kit bag differs sligthly in texture and tools, but the overall architecture stays the same for all 6 years.
My tool kit bag correspond to this information but friends keep saying, a tool kit bag which resembles close to the one of the 356's has been existing also.
Could you provide me with some pics, exterior and interior, of a correct period tool kit bag, maybe for a 2.0litre, 2.2litre, 2.4litre and 2.7litre ?
    Thank you in advance

I'm traveling and don't have pic access, and I'm swamped as well. Do a search for the info. 911 bags are different in fabric most years from 65 to 69 (my opinion), same bag from late 69 to mid 73, then a couple of options happen in mid 73. Yes, the early bag is similar to the 64/65 C/SC 356 bag, but that bag is one tone (same inside color as outside color for 99% of the 356 bags) 911 bags were black outside with putty inside (a few red interiors) from 65 to 68. Many bags had a tan interior in 69.

Sorry but I don't have time to do justice to this right now....and this was a real thumbnail reply. Johnsons book has a few holes and inaccuracies in many areas, and toolkits is one of them.

    back to work..

    thank you, Eric
-what means "black outside with PUTTY inside"..black outside with GRAY inside ?
Tan inside, so is mine from 1971.

-Also: are the closing clips always the same ?
The 356's tool bag had a leather strip, but i have seen also some bags with black buttons.
On 911's, so far, all my documents are showing a clip system with two metal sliding clips attached to the bag.

Nobody got photos of their period 911 tool kit bags 66-73 ????
Eric tells me even Peter Morgan Book and B.Johnsons restorer guide have faults. I do have period roadtest articles but the b/w photos are fuzzy.
So early911s members are my last hope..
    thanks !

    Here's a related question:
Where is the proper location for the tool kit and jack under the front hood? Did the jack come with bag?

    are this from a 911?

Ok, i already found some great infos on old posts of this site which are confirming my knowledge about this issue.
    Here is my question:
Is one of the following tool kit bag from a 911?
i have my doubts, to the left, its from a 356 and to the right ... ??
Maybe an early 65/66 ?? if not, from which car could it be ??
(i know only the ones like my period 71kit which is still with my car.)

the kit on the left appears to be a reproduction 356A kit. the kit on the right appears to be from a 911, but later than you suggest. i'll defer to Eric.
i've posted a bag from my original owner '66 912. the "putty" (color) that Eric refers to is pictured here. it's between kinda-off white & kinda light grey.

    Screw Driver Color

My '71 kit has two red handled screwdrivers like the ones in the pictures. I looked at a '70 this weekend that had two yellow ones of slightly different colors. They both said "Made in West Germany." Are the red ones in my kit OE equipment? I must assume that they are since my car is virtually unmolested.
