separating door window from metal channel

How do I safely remove the door window from the window bracket (that is connected to the window regulator)? There's a folded rubber strip between the glass and channel that seems to have a death grip on the glass after ~35 yrs. Obviously, I don't want to break the glass. Thanks.

I use a thin blade knife to slice along the glass on both sides. After a few passes, the sticky rubber seal will give up.
It also helps to do it out in the sun where all parts get warmed up.

When I did it some time ago I used a razor, lots of 3M adhesive remover to soften up the glue, and a screwdriver underneath to gently pry it up. I will say that unless you want to replace the glass, which i assume you do, I would leave it alone.

    Good luck,

    John
