    sport seats quandry

    I'm in a pickle.

I'm in NJ, I bought a set of sport seats from a guy in Canada, the photos looked pretty nice, the price a little below average.

When I got the seats, the bases were all wrong, they were home-made, no way to attach seat belts, and the more I dig into this project, the more disgusted I am. The seats have the wrong upholstery, but I can live with this for a while. The car they are going into is the 1969 911S, a very nice, preservation class kind of driver. 68,000 miles, very nice overall.

So, I gripe to the seller that the bases are awful and can't be used, he tells me he has found a correct set of bases, and now that I see photos, I see these are some aftermarket bases, with attachment for seat belts, but no sliders, and I fear I won't be happy with them.

So, now, I don't know what to do, sell the seats at a loss, I'm sure, or return them to the seller, and pay shipping and duty/tariff/tax to cross the border, or live with them with the wrong bases or spend another $1000 to get the right bases.

    Any opinions????

If the purchase price for was reasonable for just the seats you should be pretty happy. Sport seats command big $ these days, even seats that need to be restored (another $1.5K to $2k). Assuming you paid no more that $2k for good seats your deal was not that bad. Find your self some bases. I know they are as rare as hen's teeth but once in a while they surface. There is nothing wrong with adapting custom frames. You can always fabricate a seat belt mount on the bracket or adapt your factory seat sliders? How often do you need access to the back seats?

That is very unfortunate. For future reference please keep my information in mind.

If you can find bases for $1,000 I will take a set. I have been looking for correct bases for about a year. I Was out bid twice on E bay at over $1,500. I saw a drivers side sell for over $650.

Send them back to the owner. Be patient, find a complete Seat/Rail set up and send them to Tony. You will be $$ ahead.

    hi,

i am in NJ also. I have a set of leather sport/standard recaros out of an italian delivery 71S that i had in my 69S (before i sold it ). they are the original black leather with a nice patina for that period look. they, of course, have the original bases and sliders with seat belt attachments. if you would like to purchase/inspect them let me know.
