    Cibies, documentary from the factory

I saw a documentary from the factory racing department yesterday. A guy where working on a racing version of the 911 around 1970 and was painting 2 pairs of Cibies that was allready mounted on the hood and besides the headlights. They where painted flat black after they where installed with a brush!! even the chrome rings where painted and the chrome rings had tabs.....

So if anybody wants the correct racing look I guess thats the way to go.

The movie is called "Automobiles: THE PORSCHE 911" made in 1994

Where were they mounted? Vertical & horizonal orientation?

    Thanks,

    Hi John A.

I have run the movie in slow motion a couple of times, because I find these details fascination, and was quite surprised when I saw the factory racing department guy, with a can of paint in one hand and a brush in the other hand, painting the already mounted buckets.

The first pair where installed in the common place, besides the headlights, the second pair was installed on the hood, well in front of the headlights, and not in line like I have seen a lot of cars have. I will this evening look closer at the movie, and estimate the distance between them and how far in front of the headlights, the second pair was mounted and get back to you. I will also look closer at what kind of Porsche this was, I think it was without spoiler or duck, but with wide flairs.

In the movie there are quite a lot of rally photage, and a lot of different types of extra lights used. I think that one of the cars have a larger kind of Cibies (Oskars?) mounted on the hood. When it comes to the Pallas Cibies I think the factory and probably private teams mounted the Cibies where they would be best suited for the specific purpose the car was being used for (different kinds of races, terrains, snow etc.) So there might not be a standard for where they where mounted.

I believe the ST in the picture that the guy is brush-painting is the one David Moore & Ron Maxwell restored for Peter Kitchak. It's gorgeous and sports those lights. I wonder if they refinished them in the same way.
