    Tool Kit Question

A friend just gave me a complete tool kit in very good condition. It has string ties around the basket weave case. My 71 has a thumb clasp and a hoop. Is this an earlier or later kit?

I'lll get some pictures later when I get home...

    Any thoughts welcome until then.

Thanks Scooter... that's about all I needed. I wanted one for the 914-6/GT I'm building. Close counts but, not a big deal. I'll still post a pic to see if we can narrow it down.

more info for you in response to your question.

    Your kit is from a 1973-1/2 911.

It appears correct and complete except for the rare screwdriver (single handle with reversible shaft slot/philips).

It should have Selected Special Steel wrenches.

The tie string bag lasted only about 6 months. A few snap bags have been seen on very late 73-1/2 cars. The "tie string" kit was used on 911T's, E's, S's, and RS's.

The two round button snaps first came on the bags in the '74 911.

I gleaned this information from a tool guru friend of mine and thought I would pass it on.

My expertise is on earlier toolkits.

    Cheers

    Scooter to the rescue again!

So, If I swap this kit out with the one with the snaps (that is currently in my RS Clone) I would be on the right road. Again, not that it matters that much but I wanted to have some period kits in each car and the 914-6/GT should be more like a 70 car...

    Danke!

    (now... to find a screwdriver.)

BTW... the snaps I'm talking about are the thumb type buttons that slide into a clasp, not round button snaps. I believe that kit came stock with my 71T.

And... thanks for all the info.

    Rare Screwdriver

Does the double-ended screwdriver have a red plastic handle with "MADE IN W. GERMANY" in very small raised letters? If so, I have one that I'm willing to part with.
