New Motor, new heat exchangers - car still stinks

I had counted on losing the oily fumes from the heater when I replaced the motor and heat exchangers. The oily smell gives me a headache on long drives and permeates the car and my clothes. Can so much residual oily residue live in the heating ducts to still create this problem or am I looking at something more profound?

Hello: Make sure the heater control valves are working correctly and the valve is closing off. The cloth on the inside sometimes disolves and allows the oil smoke in. Also if you have an oil leak on top of the engine it will blow through the heater system as well. Check around the vent cover area. Good luck. Thanks Eric

FWIW, when Bernie cleaned my car up, the burning oil smell went away.

    Eric,

Where are the heater control valves located so I can inspect?

    Thanks,
    Rick

Rick: The control valves are mounted to the body above the heat exchangers on the front sideof the exchangers. They are held on with 3 nuts and the activating cable. Hope this helps. Thanks Eric
